Coercion and the RH Bill :The State and RH Indoctrination

You have probably heard the RH supporters’ claims that the RH bill will give “informed choice” to the public, that it is for “women’s health” and for “obstetric care”. However behind this benign rhetoric is the heavy hand of the State in RH indoctrination. Section 16 is all about mandatory sex education for ALL students (both private or public schools, regardless of religious affiliation) – from grade 5 to 4^th year high school. Section 24 ensures a nationwide RH “mass indoctrination” by “a heightened nationwide multi-media campaign to raise the level of public awareness of the protection and promotion of reproductive health and rights including family planning and population and development.” Far from offering the public informed choice, it actually sets up an RH indoctrination platform, where no one is allowed to express disagreement nor speak their opinions on the intent of the bill under pain of imprisonment.

You see, the RH bill is coercive. Why is it coercive? It punishes those who object to its provisions. It punishes those who will teach something different from its provisions.

How can it be coercive? Look at Section 28, “Prohibited Acts”

1. The RH bill punishes local government officials, regardless of their religious beliefs, budgets, and provinces’ health needs, if they do not implement the RH bill in their local government unit.

2. The RH bill punishes health professionals who withhold information on RH services, and it especially targets those who will do so because of religious convictions. If a pro-life, Catholic nurse or obstetrician chooses to only teach natural family planning to a patient, it is her right to do so and no law should force her to recommend artificial contraception.

3. The RH bill punishes health professionals who refuse to give RH services. And the religious objectors are required to refer. Why should someone who is objecting be forced to refer , against his own conscience, by a law?

4. The RH bill punishes anyone who “will engage in malicious disinformation” about the intents and provisions of the bill. The RH bill dissenters who have different opinions than those who crafted the RH bill are the targets here. Obviously, it will not apply to RH supporters and advocates.

Besides, who determines what it the “correct” information and what is “incorrect” (to determine what is“disinformation”)? The RH sponsors, lobbyists, advocates and their resource persons. YET, in the present RH bill debates in Congress and the social media, RH bill advocates, lobbyists, supporters are ALREADY denying RECENT(dated May 2011) unbiased evidence-based scientific information (from the WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer , no less) that states that “combined oral contraceptives are group 1 CARCINOGENS” and that “there is SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE on the carcinogenicity of combined oral contraceptives”. If these people who wrote the RH bill and are lobbying for it are denying medical facts NOW, how can they be trusted to determine correct information? Medical science is ever-changing, and new researches reveal causes, effects and correlations that were not known before. In this example, carcinogenicity of combined oral contraceptives is established by new findings. How can a proposed law punish “disinformation”, in the ever-changing field of medical science?

Moreover, RH advocates are also denying basic scientific facts like the beginning of life. From high school we are taught that a new human life begins at fertilization, at the moment of zygote formation. We have RH advocates who call the unborn as “not human” or “not persons” and those who arbitrarily, but absurdly, move the beginning of life from the moment of fertilization to implantation. With these absurd unscientific assertions of RH advocates, how can the RH bill determine what is “incorrect” or what is “disinformation” when they themselves deny plain-as-day scientific facts and findings?

To be truly fair, RH advocates denying scientific facts and downplaying cancer risks from oral contraceptives must also be punished because these are all medical disinformation. But if it is ONLY these RH consultants/advocates who will determine what is “correct”, then ONLY pro-life advocates will be punished. This is highly discriminatory and truly biased.

The RH bill is like a giant indoctrination and coercion machine. It violates the principles of free speech, and the freedom to practice one’s religion. These are just more reasons to say NO to the RH bill.

On TV news last Nov. 25, our very assertive senator dished out sex like she were giving out lollipops to little kids. In that one minute or so coverage, her message must have sunk deep into the nation’s viewing audience.

What was very alarming was her sweeping statement that if you do not like sex, you’ve got to see a doctor because you are abnormal. What for? Because of a brain damage or something? Isn’t she aware that there are many people who opt out of sex for higher dimensions of spirituality? Surely priests and nuns, bishops and cardinals and, above all, the pope are not abnormal people, considering the responsibilities they are holding.

By endorsing a piece of legislation like the RH bill, this senator was expected by the people to do a candid but dignified handling of the topic because controversy over this issue has been raging for months. But no, she seemed to be taking it lightly, somewhat jokingly without regard to the repercussions of her pronouncements. And to think that it was a lady-senator who could have been our president telling university students to buy condoms if they could no longer suppress their sexual urges. It sounds like she was encouraging the indiscriminate use of condoms. No, madam senator, not that easy, not that fast. You have to be married first and, in a Christian society, we follow rules. Rules that preserve life, and rules that do not kill.

You have overlooked the fact that Filipinos have dignity and moral values. They don’t copulate like dogs by the roadside to satisfy a sexual urge. You underestimate the sensitivity of Filipino society. Please do not bark this way or the big bone will fall from your mouth.

100% of "undecided" TV studio audience votes "NOT IN FAVOR OF THE RH BILL" after hearing both sides

At the TV5 RH Bill debate televised last Sunday, August 21, 2011, the studio audience was comprised of people who were all undecided about the RH bill.They were the ones allowed to vote on the questions. Results of the voting were flashed after two seconds. The pro-lifers and the RH advocates were there but were not voters, only spectators.

At the end of the program, after hearing all the arguments and debates, the undecided-on-the-RH-bill audience was asked: "Pabor ka ba sa RH bill?" This picture shows the results. 100% -HINDI pabor sa RH bill. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT.

Given all the arguments and information, the undecided see what is wrong with the bill and decide against it.

Again, we say that there is nothing wrong with maternal health, prevention of disease and responsible parenthood in themselves. But this bill is a part of the package of a culture of death--it is the means and the ways to achieve these health goals which is immoral. Six years of state-controlled mandatory non-moral, non=Biblical sex education is unacceptable in any form to Christians, because sex is always a moral issue. Even in many states in the US they have no such mandatory sex ed. And it is not six years where it is mandatory. The next generation, starting with next year's students, if the bill is passed, will be recipients of the sex ed. The sexualization of an entire generation of Filipino young people will begin.

State provision of free contraception is also not done in a first world country like the US. Why should it be done in our country?

Population control is not Biblical. The Bible always welcomes children and considers them a blessing. Successful population control in the Bible was done by Herod and Pharaoh.

Freedom of conscience of health professionals is also trampled upon by the RH bill. Freedom of speech of those who disagree with the RH bill is also trampled upon as it promises to punish anyone who will give disinformation on the bill. Moreover, the RH bill's declaration of policy says that it will eradicate any laws or policies that infringe on reproductive rights. In countries where abortion is legal, reproductive rights include access to abortion.

RH bill advocates, save for one doctor, consistently, though unethically, deny medical research from the WHO and the Mayo CLinic and cancer research journals that say that oral contraceptives are carcinogens. RH bill advocates also absurdly say that life begins at implantation in the womb when any embryology text book and elementary/middle school science textbook will tell you that life begins at fertilization, when the egg and the sperm unite and the zygote forms. There is consistent dehumanization of the zygote, the embryo and the fetus by some RH bill advocates to suit their stand on embryocidal and abortifacient contraception and abortion. Some RH bill advocates and lobbyists are vocal for their support of legalization of abortion. There is not one provision nor mention on the humanity of the zygote,embryo,or fetus in the entire RH bill. Children are called "unplanned/mistimed pregnancies".

Therefore those who support the RH bill for its health ends ought to rethink what they are bargaining for. The RH bill is not merely a health care program. It will be a law if passed, with a huge budget, implementation mechanisms to ensure it is followed, punishments and imprisonments for violations. The DOH already has maternal health care programs, family planning programs, and already purchases contraceptives to be given for free. Half of its budget goes to such programs already. An existing law,The Magna Carta for Women, RA 9710, already contains all the maternal health, obstetric care and family planning provisions seen in the RH bill. RA 8504, Philippine AIDS Prevention and Control Act, already addresses HIV and AIDS.The health ends of the RH bill are already addressed by existing programs and laws. Therefore the RH bill is not necessary for the health ends it wants to address. We must not let the soul of our nation be sold to an immoral, God-hating culture of death. The moral costs of the RH bill are too great for the benefits it claims to give.

Well, more than being able to prevent embryos from implanting in their mothers' wombs, IUDs have been found to cause harm to women. A hard object does not belong inside a soft body!

To women: if you are a Christian, don't have an IUD placed. IUDs can prevent implantation of an embryo that God has made in His image, and an IUD can damage your body. If you are not a Christian, I hope these images discourage you from having one placed. Your doctor should show you these pictures even before he/she suggests IUD placement.

There are contraceptives in the RH bill which are harmful to women.The RH bill says it shall provide “medically safe contraceptives” and will even purchase such contraceptives together with essential medicines for all LGUs. But there is a whole lot of evidence for harmful effects to women of certain contraceptives.

These harmful effects are the following:

1) Oral contraceptives increase the risk of developing breast cancer.
2) Oral contraceptives increase the risk of suffering from venous thrombosis.
3) Intrauterine devices can cause perforation of the uterus and other internal body parts and life-threatening infections.

I present here medical evidence from scientific journals for each of the abovementioned harmful effects.

1) Oral contraceptives increase the risk of developing breast cancer.

The Filipino public MUST KNOW that oral contraceptives increase the risk of developing breast cancer. Certain RH bill advocates have downplayed this increased risk of breast cancer from pills, and have even labeled prolifers to be “misinforming” or “lying” about this . Here we present several studies from scientific journals that state this very same finding. These prestigious researchers are definitely not misinforming. Well, even an RH bill advocate (former DOH secretary Cabral) admitted in a radio interview on April 27,2011 that oral contraceptives do increase the risk of developing breast cancer.

A 2006 study published by researchers at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in the peer-reviewed medical journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings stated that:

“Use of oral contraceptives is associated with an increased risk of premenopausal breast cancer, especially with use before first full term pregnancy in parous women.” (parous=has given birth to a live infant)

A more recent study, published in 2010, by cancer researchers in the US, concluded that:

“Current use of oral contraceptives carries an excess risk of breast cancer. Levonorgestrel used in triphasic preparations may account for much of this elevation in risk.”

Two well-known Filipino researchers from the University of the Philippines also found the same results in the Filipino population. They published their study in the Japanese Journal of Clinical Oncology. They stated:

“Women who are currently on combined oral contraceptives or who have used them in the last 10 years are at a slightly increased risk of having breast cancer diagnosed and additional cancers diagnosed tend to be localized to the breast. There is no evidence of an increased risk 10 or more years after stopping use …Post-menopausal women are at an increased risk of having breast cancer diagnosed while on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and in the 5 years after stopping use, relative risk was increased by 2.7% for each year of use. There is no evidence of an increased risk of breast cancer 5 or more years after stopping HRT .”

Experimental biologists in yet another study state that combinations of synthetic progestins and estrogens increase the risk of breast cancer.:

“There is now considerable evidence that using a combination of synthetic progestins and estrogens in hormone replacement therapy (HRT) increases the risk of breast cancer compared with estrogen alone. Furthermore, the World Health Organization has recently cited combination contraceptives, which contain synthetic progestins, as potentially carcinogenic to humans, particularly for increased breast cancer risk.”

The researchers furthermore explain the mechanism how synthetic progestins and estrogens, which are used in hormone replacement therapy,but are also found in oral contraceptives, affect the breast. Breast tissues in women respond to hormonal changes in a woman’s menstrual cycle, as part of God’s design , to prepare for breast changes in case of pregnancy. The study explains how hormones in oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy alter these normal cyclical changes in breast cells:

“Disruption of androgen action by synthetic progestins may have serious deleterious side effects in the breast, where the balance between estrogen signaling and androgen signaling plays a critical role in breast homeostasis. Here, we review the role of androgen signaling in the normal breast and in breast cancer and present new data demonstrating that androgen receptor function can be perturbed by low doses of MPA(medroxyprogesterone acetate), similar to doses achieved in serum of women taking HRT. We propose that the observed excess of breast malignancies associated with combined HRT may be explained, in part, by synthetic progestins such as MPA acting as endocrine disruptors to negate the protective effects of androgen signaling in the breast."

Both endogenous (naturally in the body) and synthetic (in contraceptives and HRT) estrogens are responsible for breast cancer cell proliferation (in estrogen-sensitive tumors). That is why anti-estrogen medications are efficacious in preventing and treating breast cancer. This is what French and Italian researchers reported in the Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology :

“The greater breast cancer risk persistently related to the use of HRT preparations containing estrogen and synthetic progestins seems in all likelihood due to the regimen and/or to the kind of progestin used. The “non-physiological” continuous-combined regimen, could increase the risk because it does not allow sloughing of lobular duct epithelium (such as occurs when progesterone declines at the end of the normal menstrual cycle). More importantly, many of the progestins used have several non-progesterone like actions that potentiate the proliferative effect of estrogens on breast tissue and estrogensensitive cancer cells.”

On the Philippine Breast Cancer Network website they put a statement: "Some of the causes of breast cancer ... can only be controlled by political and social action aimed at reducing the production, use, transport and disposal of agents that directly or indirectly affect breast cancer risks.- Environmental Health Perspectives, September 1998”

If we were to follow this recommendation above for breast cancer, logically, therefore, the government “must reduce the production, use, transport and disposal of hormonal contraceptives.”-because hormonal contraceptives directly increase breast cancer risk.

The government tries to reduce smoking through public health awareness education to prevent lung cancer. Yet the RH bill will include these breast-cancer-risk-increasing hormonal contraceptives together with the purchase of essential medicines (Section 10) for all national and local hospitals and local government units.

2) Oral contraceptives increase risk of developing venous thrombosis

That oral contraceptives increase the risk of developing venous thrombosis is also a well-known fact.
Researchers from the Netherlands studied 1524 OC users vs 1760 non-users of oral contraceptives in their country. In their 2009 study, they concluded:

“ Currently available oral contraceptives increasedthe risk of venous thrombosis fivefold compared with non-use . The risk clearly differed by type of progestogen and dose of oestrogen. The use of oral contraceptives containing levonorgestrel was associated with an almost fourfold increased risk of venous thrombosis relative to non-users, whereas the risk of venous thrombosis compared with non-use was increased 5.6- fold for gestodene, 7.3-fold for desogestrel , 6.8-fold for cyproterone acetate and 6.3-fold for drospirenone. The risk of venous thrombosis was positively associated with oestrogen dose. We confirmed a high risk of venous thrombosis during the first months of oral contraceptive use irrespective of the type of oral contraceptives.” -

3) Intrauterine devices can cause perforation of the uterus and other internal body parts and life-threatening infections.
The Filipino public must know about these cases and see for themselves that these are not medically “safe” devices.

Let this picture speak for itself. This is an IUD that has perforated the large intestine. It perforated the uterine wall and then the large intestine. Korean researchers also report of a case of a patient who had had vague lower abdominal pain for three months. They state:

"The abdominal X-ray, computed tomography and colonoscopy revealed that the IUD had penetrated into the descending colon."Penetration of the descending colon by a migrating intrauterine contraceptive device.J Korean Soc Coloproctology. 2010 Dec;26(6):433-6. Epub 2010 Dec 31.Park JM, et al.

Researchers from Greece report of a woman who had actinomycosis ( a bacterial infection from Actinomyces israelii) stemming from an IUD. They report:

"Ultrasound and computed tomography were performed, revealing an ovarian tumor formation and acute appendicitis. The patient underwent exploratory laparotomy, unilateral ovarectomy due to acute abscess and finally appendectomy. The role of IUD as a factor in the dissemination of the infection is very important.” Actinomycosis of the appendix and pelvis: a case report. J Reprod Med. 2008; 53(9):711-3 Peitsidis P et al

American researchers report of a woman who had Pseudomonas infection (a bacterial infection from Pseudomonas aeruginosa):

“Case: a 35-year-old woman with an IUD for 6 years with pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) . Authors implemented antibiotic therapy. Her clinical course worsened, and exploratory surgery revealed a right tubo-ovarian abscess with multiple loculated pelvic abscesses. Culture of the IUD found heavy growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. “Pseudomonas aeruginosa-infected IUD associated with pelvic inflammatory disease. A case report.J Reprod Med. 2002; 47(12):1035-7 .King JA; Olsen TG; Lim R; Nycum LR.

Infections may also be fatal. Researchers from Poland report of a woman who died from Actinomycosis infection from her IUD:

“Case: 49-year-old woman who had been using an intrauterine contraceptive device for 20 years. The pelvic actinomycosis in her case led to sepsis and consequently to her death. Colonisation with Actinomyces israeli in women using IUD may amount up to even 20%.” Pelvic actynomycosis as the result of a long standing use of an intrauterine device. Case report. We have shown you the harmful effects of these contraceptives which are included in the RH bill. In our earlier blog post, we showed how the RH bill does not uphold life from conception,which is just one reason to reject the RH bill. Here we have shown you the harmful effects of contraceptives, the foremost of which is breast cancer. Breast cancer is more than a mere side-effect. Side effects are things like “headaches”, “skin rashes” or “dizziness”. This is breast cancer: a malignant, spreading,and ultimately fatal disease of breast tissue. This is definitely something the public must know, because according to the article written the UP researchers mentioned in this blogpost, breast cancer is the 2nd leading cancer site in the Philippines. Let the public reject the RH bill. We cannot afford the health costs of these harmful effects of contraceptives which the RH bill will purchase nationwide by the millions- especially the health cost of breast cancer.

Christians: Things You Need to Know about the RH Bill #1 : it does not uphold life as starting at conception

The RH bill does not uphold life as starting from conception, which is the moment of fertilization, or when the egg and the sperm unite to form a diploid zygote. Embryologists, without a doubt,say that life starts at the point of conception, when the zygote is formed:

“Each human being starts his life, his very being, as an ordinary cell called the zygote, measuring less than 0.2 mm in diameter.”

If life begins at conception, therefore any contraceptive that kills a conceived life or prevents a human life from implanting in his mother's womb(thereby killing him) after the point of conception, is what is called an abortifacient, or a drug causing abortion or death of a human life.

Which contraceptives included in the RH bill are abortifacient?

1. The IUD or intrauterine device

According to medical researchers in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, IUDs have both a prefertilization and postfertilization effect:

"There are many potential mechanisms of action for the intrauterine device (IUD), which vary by type of IUD (inert, copper, or hormonal). On the basis of available data for fertilization rates and clinical pregnancy rates, the relative contribution of mechanisms acting before or after fertilization were quantitatively estimated. These estimates indicate that, although prefertilization effects are more prominent for the copper IUD, both prefertilization and postfertilization mechanisms of action contribute significantly to the effectiveness of all types of intrauterine devices."

And yet some RH bill advocates deny that IUDs have a post-fertilization effect. They say pro-lifers are "misinforming".But Drs.Stanford and Mikolajczyk in the article above are not "misinforming".The fact is that IUDs can prevent a living human life from implanting in his mother's womb.And the public should know about that so they can have a true "informed choice"- they can stay away from this contraceptive which kills conceived life.

2. Hormonal contraceptives: in all its forms, whether as oral contraceptive pills,injections, implants, patches and hormone-releasing IUDs, etc., have both prefertilization and post-fertilization mechanisms of action.

These are the three ways that hormonal contraceptives act:

First effect: stops ovulation (not all of the time)-(pre-fertilization)
Second effect : prevents sperm from migrating to the fallopian tube -(pre-fertilization)
Third effect: prevents implantation of a fertilized egg or zygote or blastocyst(when breakthrough ovulation occurs, as prevention of ovulation is not 100% foolproof)- (post-fertilization)

Remember, not all women taking these hormonal contraceptives are at the exact same stage of their menstrual cycle, so that means that the mechanism of action cannot be confined to pre-fertilization only, as RH bill advocates claim. Saying that hormonal contraceptives do not act on a conceived life is misinformation, and in fact, two editors of the peer-reviewed reproductive health journal “Contraception” said:

“To make an informed choice, women must know that emergency contraceptive pills — like all regular hormonal contraceptives such as the birth control pill, the progestin-containing implant and the injectable depot medroxyprogesterone acetate — may prevent pregnancy by delaying or inhibiting ovulation, inhibiting fertilization, or inhibiting implantation of a fertilized egg in the endometrium.”

Two researchers, Walter L. Larimore, MD and Joseph B. Stanford, MD, MSPH, in the Archives of Family Medicine, also said:

We found the evidence supporting postfertilization effects for OCs in the prevention of clinically recognized pregnancy(implantation) to range from poor (level III) to very good (level II.2). Specifically, evidence based on alterations in endometrial biochemistry and histology (level III), evidence based on endometrial thickness and endometrial receptivity from research studying in vitro fertilization (level II.2), and evidence based on endometrial integrins (level II.3) all support the possibility of peri-implantation or postimplantation effects. Furthermore, evidence based on ectopic-to-intrauterine risk ratios from multiple case-control studies (level II.2) supports the possibility of postfertilization preimplantation, peri-implantation, or postimplantation effects...The available evidence supports the hypothesis that when ovulation and fertilization occur in women taking OCs, postfertilization effects are operative on occasion to prevent clinically recognized pregnancy(implantation).

Certain RH bill advocates have gone so far as to redefine the meaning of conception- by saying that "conception begins at the moment of implantation"-which is totally false. They even say that the Latin word for conceive means pregnancy. But no Latin word can change the fact that human life begins at fertilization, which is also called conception. We have shown evidence from three Embryology books, no less, that life begins at fertilization, when the zygote is formed. This absurd redefinition is merely a "conscience-numbing" redefinition so that they can sell IUDs and hormonal contraceptives so that the users will not have "guilt" at having killed an embryo. This is an example of altering the definitions because the real definition makes them purveyors of human-life-killing contraceptives. This redefinition also allows them to convince people that contraceptives are “okay” because it “does not kill” conceived life – because they changed the meaning of “conception”. People who have been convinced by such a redefinition then make decisions based on this redefinition. But no matter how they redefine ‘conception’, the fact still remains that the diploid zygote is the start of human life. Think of it—if you, as an embryo, failed to implant in your mother’s womb, you would not be here.

The RH bill lists as the third element of reproductive health care the “proscription of abortion and management of abortion complications”, and in Sec. 3, it lists “care for post-abortion complications for women” as its 9th Guiding Principle.This “management of post-abortion complications” phrase is the most horrible part of the RH bill because of its utter disregard for the aborted baby’s life. And though the bill proscribes or prohibits abortion, it actually makes “management of post-abortion complications” a reproductive right. Therefore, if the bill becomes law, any one can abort/kill their baby and they will be guaranteed the right to “management of post-abortion complications”.

Why not just make it a more general “provision of emergency obstetric care to everyone who needs it”? We agree that any patient, woman or man, must always be treated compassionately and humanely whether or not he or she has committed a crime. But in this bill, the very fact that abortion is specified as the cause of the complication means that the RH bill condones abortion and gives it special treatment. Anyone who does an illegal , criminal abortion of their baby will be protected by the RH bill once it is a law. Abortion is murder of the unborn baby and a grievous sin before God. It is the shedding of innocent blood. It is a crime under Philippine laws. The “complication” of an abortion to a baby is death. Death of a baby cannot be undone, unlike post-abortion complications in women which can be managed. Abortion hurts women, and it kills children. “Management of abortion complications” must not be in the RH bill! NO to the RH BILL!

Dear Sir or Madam,

The Reproductive Health Bill is a breach in collective national reason. It is common knowledge that this country has stumbled over many bad decisions over the span of its existence, but the Reproductive Health Bill is on a par all its own. While it is true that the Reproductive Health Bill does have some good points and intentions, my reason has led me to believe that the RH Bill will lead us nowhere but miserable failure. Unfortunately I am an underage student in high school with no political power whatsoever, and what I can do to influence the decisions made in this country is infinitely smaller compared to the power held by you. That is the reason why this letter is being written, because I know you yourself would encourage a young citizen like me to take action, although my opinion and yours seem to contradict each other. I do not see anyway around that problem so you might as well deal with it and read what I have prepared for you in this letter.

In the Reproductive Health Bill, with its paragraphs and statements and endless definitions, one simple goal is blatantly expressed: to curb national overpopulation. This dilemma of ours is supposedly an obstacle in the way of national progress, because apparently a country only needs a certain number of people to succeed. This country, so it is said, has too many mouths to feed, too little space to build houses on, and too little money to accommodate everybody. It is a very simple concept that seems true. We need a fewer amount of people so that we can make the most out of the money we have. We will not try to make more money. We will try to have fewer people.
Obviously there is a lot of fallacy in this. First of all, poverty is not caused by overpopulation. Poverty is caused first and foremost by inefficient leadership. If you take the root of it all you will see that the ruin of a society has never been caused by the people. It is atrocious how people, especially the poor ones, are seen as the stumbling block to this country’s progress. Is it the poor who steal billions of pesos of taxpayer’s money? Is it the poor who do not provide sufficient infrastructure? Is it the poor that continually makes one bad decision over another? Maybe instead of blaming the innocent, you should be pointing your finger in the other direction. It is so easy to manipulate words to justify one’s actions and incapability, and then put the blame on the victims, instead taking the responsibility for one’s own.

In fact, the single most important resource in a country is the human resource. It is the Filipino people who make up this country’s workforce. The bigger the population, the more people there will be to work. The more people there will be to consume. Correspondingly, if you have nobody to work, there will be less output. There will also be less people to consume products. Consumers are needed for this country to thrive. What will happen if there are not enough Filipinos?

Overpopulation is nothing but a myth used as a scapegoat by powerful people as a way to continue their inefficient agenda. The mentality of overpopulation will destroy the Philippines just as it is destroying the world as we speak. When perhaps we have a population that is suitable enough for you, you will realize that you actually need people to work and to produce in order to keep a country on its feet. Perhaps maybe then it would be too late, and the economy is struggling to keep alive because the small population of young workers is also trying to handle the burden of large aging population. Then you would have to switch things around and do what countries like Singapore are doing, and that is to actually pay a couple to have children. But does the Philippines have enough budget for that kind of plan?

I would also like to take this opportunity to inquire if the government is actually doing something to assess the high density of people in the urban centers. The reason that the cities are so cramped is because there no jobs to be found in the rural areas. Is the government looking for ways to make new jobs so that people would not go to the city? Perhaps the problem of overpopulation would not be so bad if the Filipinos could be more spread out. This is just a suggestion.

Second of all, I am against this bill because it states that I will go to jail if I say anything bad about it, supposing that it is passed. Never in my life have I encountered a bill with such insecurity. What is so wrong about speaking out against some law? If you have an answer, then please enlighten me. I do not understand. I thought that our Constitution defends my right to express my opinions. Apparently I can express my opinions about anything except this certain topic. I did not realize that such things are allowed. Of course I would not know about these very well, since I am only in high school. However, you are politician and you should know a lot about laws and rights. Please reply back so that I can settle this in my mind and tell my friends about it.

Thirdly, the Reproductive Health Bill speaks a lot about defending women by giving them access to artificial birth control methods. I understand how having clinics is good for women, as it is mentioned in the RH Bill, but what are you defending them from when you give them birth control? From babies? Since when have babies become vicious pests that women need defense from? As a young woman myself, I personally find condom use degrading. Artificial birth control methods encourage men to see women not as persons but as objects to derive pleasure from. Widespread condom use will raise the number of prostitutes in this country. Now that young girls know how not to get pregnant, they can sell their bodies as much as they wish without the risk. How does this empower womanhood? That is one more thing I do not understand.

One’s stance on the Reproductive Health Bill is not an opinion. This Bill is not something that I can compare to a favorite color or a favorite pop tune. Your stance on the RH Bill is yes or no, wrong or right. Perhaps for simple folks like me, the say on the RH Bill has no consequence. But for you, it is a matter of progress or regress for this country. Important Political Person, I am pretty sure that you know more than I do, and you have very good tastes and opinions on a vast array of subjects. But on this issue I am afraid to say that you are wrong. You have been deceived by the popular opinions of the western world and you are leading everyone in a dangerous direction. When you are making your decision you are not siding with the church or state, the masses or the elite. You are making a decision as a service to your country, which is what your occupation demands you hold in utmost.

I have brought forth what my mental power can come up with, and hopefully it has caused you to think about the Reproductive Health Bill even just a little bit.

Why Are We Saying No to the RH Bill?

Why are we saying no to the RH Bill? This is probably what many Christians are wondering. You are probably saying, it’s for informed choice for couples, it’s about women’s health, it’s about HIV/AIDS and population management. But Christians, the RH bill is a wolf in sheep's clothing. May we not be deceived by the words "informed choice", "responsible parenthood", and "health" in this bill. Look deep into the actual contents of the bill and see what it is hiding. Like a Trojan horse, it looks "nice" on the outside but it is actually filled with deceptive words and abortion is actually sneaked into it.

Let me explain these parts of the RH bill that we reject, one by one , with actual quotes from the bill. These are the reasons why we say NO to the RH bill.

1. The RH bill carries with it an oppressive punishment for people who will not comply with it, making disagreeing with it and teaching something contrary to it a crime. Section 21 of the RH bill says that:

"the ff. acts are prohibited: any health care service provider, whether public or private, who shall knowingly withhold information or impede the dissemination thereof, and/or intentionally provide incorrect information regarding programs and services on reproductive health including the right to informed choice and access to a full range of legal, medically-safe and effective family planning methods"

BUT- who defines what is correct or incorrect here? The RH bill and its proponents of course! If the RH bill proponents says that an IUD is not abortifacient, and abortion is not wrong, and that life does not begin at conception, all of which are totally wrong and against Christian principles, so when Christian health workers will teach about the sanctity of life and that life begins at conception, and that sex should only be between married couples, we will be violating the RH bill and committing crimes once it becomes law.

2. The RH Bill undermines the institution of marriage. As Christians do not have any doctrine prohibiting ligation, you may think it may not be of concern to many Christians, but the RH bill considers a prohibited act (Sec 21) if a health worker " refuses to perform voluntary ligation and vasectomy and other legal and medically-safe reproductive health care services on any person of legal age on the ground of lack of spousal consent or authorization".

The Catholic nurses and doctors who refuse to perform ligation or vasectomy, will be committing a crime. Let us not malign or disdain Catholics on this matter! It is against their doctrine. BUT, look at how this terribly undermines marriage : the Bill puts into law that a woman or man does NOT have to have spousal consent or authorization to have a ligation or vasectomy! And if a health worker refuses to perform this procedure, on this particular ground of lack of spousal consent, he or she will be committing a crime! Christian, Catholic and Muslim marriages will be affected by this.

3. The RH bill undermines parental authority and undermines the family, which are against Christian principles. The RH Bill will punish those health workers (Sec. 21) who "refuse to provide reproductive health care services to an abused minor, whose abused condition is certified by the proper official or personnel of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) or to a duly DSWD-certified abused pregnant minor on whose case no parental consent is necessary".

What does it mean by “reproductive health care services to an abused pregnant minor”? Pregnant young women all the more need parental guidance and consent is necessary for whatever "reproductive health services" will be done on these young abused women! WHy doesn't the bill specify what "reproductive health services" will be done on such minors, who are already pregnant? Is this bill trying to hide the use of abortion or the use of abortifacient chemical contraceptives like the “emergency contraceptive” as "solutions" offered to an abused minor who is already pregnant? And all without a parent's consent!

4. The Rh bill has a conscientious objection provision, BUT, it negates it by REQUIRING by law "that the conscientious objector shall immediately refer the person seeking such care and services to another health care service provider within the same facility or one which is conveniently accessible". (Sec. 21) So even if a Catholic or Muslim doctor refuses to perform a ligation, they are required to refer. People who conscientiously object must NOT be required to refer. They are already objecting!

5. Christian churches and schools will be required to provide reproductive health care services to its employees. The RH Bill will require employers to provide “reproductive health care services, supplies and devices to all workers, more particularly women workers.” The RH bill will punish employers for not following section 17, which states: “all Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) shall provide for the free delivery by the employer of reasonable quantity of reproductive health care services, supplies and devices to all workers, more particularly women workers. In establishments or enterprises where there are no CBAs or where the employees are unorganized, the employer shall have the same obligation.”

So employers are required to provide reproductive health care to its employees! Remember, this will become a law. There is a certificate of compliance that will be required of all employers. This will affect Christian, Catholic and Muslim employers, even Christian churches and schools, because our churches and schools have employees! Remember, intrauterine devices and some birth control pills are abortifacient, meaning they prevent implantation of an already-conceived embryo. Life begins at conception, therefore anything that kills an embryo or prevents it from implanting causes an abortion or death of the human embryo. As Christians, we know that life begins at conception. We reject any form of any birth control that kills a conceived life.

6. Contrary to claims by RH bill proponents in Congress that abortion is not mentioned, the bill specifically mentions abortion in Sec. 4 in its definition of terms: It lists as the fourth element of reproductive health care the "prevention of abortion and management of post-abortion complications". You may say, but it prevents abortion, what's wrong? But why must "management of post-abortion complications" be part of reproductive health? Abortion is a crime! Why must the RH bill specifically mention management of post-abortion complications? It specifies "abortion" as the cause of the complication. What this does is that it sets apart induced, illegal, morally wrong, criminal abortion as a procedure or cause necessitating management. Why not just make it a more general "provision of emergency obstetric care to everyone who needs it"? The very fact that abortion is specified as the cause of the complication means that the RH bill condones abortion and gives it special treatment. Abortion is murder and a grievous sin before God. It is the shedding of innocent blood. It is a crime under Philippine laws.

7. The RH bill will teach the entire nation, especially the young people, its definitions of human sexuality, sex, sexual identity, interpersonal relationships, affection, intimacy and gender roles. They will also define contraception and abortion. In Section 4, the RH bill defines “Reproductive health education” as “the process of acquiring complete, accurate and relevant information on all matters relating to the reproductive system, its functions and processes and human sexuality; and forming attitudes and beliefs about sex, sexual identity, interpersonal relationships, affection, intimacy and gender roles. It also includes developing the necessary skills to be able to distinguish between facts and myths on sex and sexuality; and critically evaluate. and discuss the moral, religious, social and cultural dimensions of related sensitive issues such as contraception and abortion.” Once again, who decides what is correct and What are facts? The Bill and its proponents determine that. And once it is a law, whatever they (the proponents and the Population Commission) define these things to be, will be what is correct and anyone who teaches otherwise will be committing crimes. And once again, abortion is mentioned. Abortion has nothing to do with “responsible parenthood” and “family planning”.

8. It will teach our children and the entire country a sex education curriculum which its proponents have formulated. The RH Bill says in Sec. 12, “Mandatory Age-Appropriate Reproductive Health Education.”– “Reproductive Health Education in an age-appropriate manner shall be taught by adequately trained teachers starting from Grade 5 up to Fourth Year High School….The POPCOM, in coordination with the Department of Education, shall formulate the Reproductive Health Education curriculum, which shall be common to both public and private schools and shall include related population and development concepts in addition to the following subjects and standards : Reproductive health and sexual rights; Reproductive health care and services; Attitudes, beliefs and values on sexual development, sexual behavior and sexual health; Proscription of the hazards of abortion and management of post-abortion complications; Responsible parenthood.. Use and application of natural and modern family planning methods to promote reproductive health, achieve desired family size and prevent unwanted, unplanned and mistimed pregnancies; Abstinence before marriage; Prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS and other, STIs/STDs, prostate cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer and other gynecological disorders; Responsible sexuality; and Maternal, peri-natal and post-natal education, care and services.”

While prevention of AIDS and STDs, abstinence before marriage and responsible parenthood are good, there is nothing good with the government teaching “Attitudes, beliefs and values on sexual development, sexual behavior and sexual health” to our children! Plus, once again they have managed to insert “abortion” again. What will be taught about the “hazards of abortion” ? Abortion is 100% fatal and hazardous to the unborn baby who has been aborted! Why must “management of post-abortion complications” be taught in sex education?

9. We reject the RH bill because it’s really about money for contraceptive manufacturers and suppliers. The RH bill puts into law that contraceptives will be made into essential medicines ! Sec. 10 says “Hormonal contraceptives, intrauterine devices, injectables and other allied reproductive health products and supplies shall be considered under the category of essential medicines and supplies which shall form part of the National Drug Formulary and the same shall be included in the regular purchase of essential medicines and supplies of all national and local hospitals and other government health units.” The RH bill only lays the groundwork for government purchases of contraceptives, including contraceptives that are abortifacient, which we reject. When we say government, it means “nationwide”. The RH Bill will become national policy.

10. We reject the RH bill because it encourages a two-child policy. In Sec. 16, “Ideal Family Size” it says: “The State shall assist couples, parents and individuals to achieve their desired family size within the context of responsible parenthood for sustainable development and encourage them to have two children as the ideal family size. Attaining the ideal family size is neither mandatory nor compulsory. No punitive action shall be imposed on parents having more than two children.”

While it says that it is not mandatory or compulsory, it will still become a law, meaning, the law will encourage this two-child policy. If it is written in the law, it will be part of legislated health policy. Previous versions of the RH Bill (the past HB 3773) even had a provision that government scholarships will only be extended to the first two children in a family. Surprisingly, it is no longer in the present bill. But what if this is put into the implementing rules and regulations? And people who will have large families will be stigmatized even if they are not punished.

Whatever is good in the bill is already legal and is being done. Yes, women who aborted/killed their children must not be refused emergency obstetric care. But RA 8344 already penalizes the refusal of hospitals and medical clinics to administer appropriate initial medical treatment and support in emergency and serious cases. Women who abort their babies are already given emergency obstetric care. HIV-AIDS programs are already in place. The RH bill tries to encompass so many health issues under it such that people who reject the RH bill are viewed as anti-women, anti-health and anti-development.

But now we have shown you what is definitely worth rejecting in the RH bill. It is the hidden agenda tucked into the RH bill, the oppressive nature of the bill toward those who reject it, the values it undermines and the questionable “values” it will try to teach.

PLEASE PRAY WITH US THAT THE RH BILL WILL BE STOPPED.

Ang abortion o pagpapalaglag ay pinagiisipan o ginagawa kapag nabuntis ang isang babae. Maaaring ang babae mismo, ang kanyang magulang, o ang kanyang asawa o boyfriend ang may gusto ng abortion. ANg mga karaniwang dahilan ay
1)kapag ang pagdadalantao ay magiging malaking balakid sa pag-aaral o trabaho. Madedelay ang paggraduate o matatanggal sa trabaho
2) ang bata ay magiging isang napakalaking financial burden na panghabangbuhay .
3)matinding hiya sa pamilya o sa babae.
4)kung may abnormality o sakit ang bata, katulad ng Down syndrome, lalo na sa ibang bansa.
5)minsan, ito na ang ginagawang birth control ng iilang babae

2. Meron po ba talagang “justified” na abortion, e.g. rape victim at ang perpetrator ay sariling ama? Sa mga ganitong situation, ano ang maaaring gawin?

Bago natin sagutin kung mayroong justified na abortion, alamin natin kung kailan nag-uumpisa ang buhay ng isang tao.Ayon sa medisina at sa agham, ang Buhay ng isang tao ay nagsisimula sa moment ng conception o kung kailan nagme-meet ang egg at sperm. Sa sandaling iyon, may isang bagong buhay na nagsisimula. Lahat tayong nabubuhay sa mundo, ganoon nagsimula ang buhay. Kung ang buhay ay nagsisimula sa conception, e di ang pagkikil o pagtigil ng buhay ng isang bata pagkatapos ng conception ay pagpatay ng isang tao.

Justified ba ang pagpatay ng isang tao dahil pahirap siya at magdadala siya ng matinding kahihiyan? Hindi po, diba? Sa mga cases katulad ng rape, hindi po kasalanan ng bata na siya’y nabuo, kaya hindi dapat siya ang parusahan sa pangyayari. Mahirap ang sitwasyon ng babae pero hindi pagpatay ng inosenteng bata ang solusyon. Bigyan natin ang babae ng ibang options katulad ng adoption after birth.

May kilala akong babaeng katulong na nirape ng kanyang amo, ngunit hindi niya pina-abort ang kanyang baby. Kahit ang perpetrator ay ang sariling ama ng isang babae, ganoon din. May emotional at physical na epekto ang pagpapalaglag. sa emotional, nagdadala ang abortion ng matinding emotional burden. Dahil ito sa guilt. Bakit may guilt? Dahil alam ng babae na pumatay siya ng anak niya. Karaniwang ginagawang pang-alis o pambawas ng “guilt” ay ang pagsabi na “dugo lang” ang isang bata. Ito ay isang pagkukumbinsi lang sa sarili, na hindi tao ang kanyang pinatay, pero “dugo lang” na tinanggal. Ngunit hindi dugo lang ang bata. Isa siyang taong nilikha ng Diyos. Matindi ang guilt sa abortion dahil alam ng ina na nawalan ng buhay ang isang bata. Bakit hindi tayo naguiguilty pag nagpapaalis ng nunal, apdo o appendix? Dahil ang mga ito ay bahagi lamang ng ating katawan. Subalit ang baby sa sinapupunan ay tao, iba sa sarili nating katawan. Ang guilt na dala ng abortion ay nakapagdadala ng mas matinding epekto, gaya ng psychiatric problems, depression and suicide, anger and aggression.

Sa physical na epekto, siyempre, ang pag-iinom ng pang-abort ay puwedeng magdala ng matinding bleeding sa matris na puwedeng ikamatay, ,at life-threatening infection ng dugo, o septicemia. Ang pagsasailalim sa abortion ay puwedeng magdala ng komplikasyon katulad ng pagkabutas ng matris, o pagnipis ng matris, at infertility. Hindi kasi natural ang abortion. Ang natural na proseso ay ang maipanganak ang bata.

Sa mga determined at decided na mag-abort, maco-counselan natin sila , pero tanging ang Diyos ang puwedeng mangusap sa kanilang mga puso. Kailangang gamitin natin ang walang kapantay na weapon laban sa abortion, ang weapon of prayer. Puwedeng mangusap ang Lord sa puso ng babae, sa parents, o sa asawa. May nagkuwento sa akin, pinipilit siyang painumin ng asawa niya ng pampalaglag, isinusubo na sa kanya ang gamot. Idinura niya ang gamot at tinapon. Noong lumabas ang asawa niya sa bahay para bumili pa ng gamot, naaksidente ang sasakyan ng asawa.Napaiyak ang asawa at nagbago ang isip. Parang naging senyales mula sa Panginoon ang aksidente.

4. Aside from saying that abortion is murder, paano pa ba pwedeng i-convince ang isang tao na huwag na magpa-abort? How can we give hope to those who are victims? At kung mga career women naman sila, paano natin sila mapipigilan sa kanilang decision?

Maraming ways to convince or counsel a woman na hindi magpa-abort.
Para sa akin, ang isang magandang pang-convince sa isang babae na huwag magpa-abort ay ang pagpapaunawa sa kanya na hindi dugo lamang ngunit sanggol na buhay, may tumitibok na puso, katawan, kamay, paa, ang kanyang pinagbubuntis. Tulungan ang babae na mahalin ang kanyang anak, bigyan siya ng sense of purpose and destiny. Tulungan siya ng isipin din ang purpose at destiny ng kanyang sanggol.

Dito makatutulong ang pagpakita ng fetal models . Puwede rin magpakita ng intrauterine photographs o mga litrato ng bata sa loob ng sinapupunan. Kung may ultrasound machine, mas maganda, at 7 to 8 weeks may heartbeat na ang baby na nakikita sa ultrasound. Ang ultrasound image ay nakakapag-iba ng damdamin ng ina.

Pangalawa, ang pagbigay ng maraming option sa babaeng buntis, na hindi kasama ang abortion sa options. Kung ayaw niyang alagaan at palakihin ang bata, ipa-adopt na lang ang bata. Kung pinalayas siya ng magulang niya, hanapan siya ng tirahan. Puwede ring tulungan ang babae na makipag-usap sa magulang para lumawak ang pag-unawa nila sa anak nila. May mga homes for pregnant women tulad ng Nor-Fil foundation na puwedeng pagreferan. Bigyan natin sila ng pag-asa sa oras ng kagipitan.

Kung career women, ganoon din ang pag-advise. Kung magkakaroon ang babae ng sense of purpose para sa kanyang anak, at makakadevelop siya ng pagmamahal sa kanyang sanggol, whether or not career woman siya, haharapin niya ang lahat dahil sa pagmamahal sa kanyang sanggol.

Kung naaalangan kang magcounsel puwede ring irefer ang babae sa mga counselors ng Pro-life Philippines, isang pro-life organization na may cellphone hotline at landlines para sa counselling ng mga buntis na nababagabag.

5. Ano ang maaaring gawin ng mga magulang kung malalaman nilang ang kanilang anak ay nagdadalantao?

Madalas nakikita natin sa pelikula o sa telenovela ang babaeng naduduwal sa may kusina, tapos nakita siya ng kanyang ama at ina, tapos sisigawan ang babae, papagalitan at sasampalin. Maaaring sa totoong buhay hindi ganito ka-dramatic ang eksena pero ang puwedeng mangyari ay mabisto ang anak o aaminin ng anak ang pagbubuntis sa mga magulang. Either way mahirap na balita ito sa isang magulang. Ang importante ay mag-isip nang malinaw ang magulang.

Una, tanggapin ang balita nang mahinahon. Huwag magpadalos-dalos sa salita. Ang pagpapalayas o pag-disown ng anak ay nagdadala ng matinding sama ng loob sa lahat.

Pangalawa, isipin na napakahirap para sa anak mo ang aminin na siya ay buntis. Inaasaahan niya ang iyong pag-iintindi at pagmamahal. Sa oras na ito, kailangan nila ng mercy, hindi judgment.

Pangatlo, hindi palaging solusyon ang pagpapakasal. Huwag mamilit na ikasal ang anak.

Pang-apat, huwag mong gawing option na ipa-abort ang apo mo dahil sa kahihiyan. Minsan masyado nating iniisip ang sasabihin ng iba. Huwag nang isipin ang sasabihin ng iba. Mas mabuti nang pag-usapan ka kaysa pumatay ka o naging taga-udyok ka sa pagpatay ng inosenteng batang walang kasalanan. Kahit ano pa ang posisyon mo, o gaano ka man kasikat o kilala, hindi ito mas importante sa anak mo o sa buhay ng apo mo.

6. Finally, ano po ang maaaring gawin ng mga magulang para maiwasan na rin ang unwanted pregnancy, and therefore maiwasan na rin ang abortion sa mga kabataan?

Ang maaaring gawin ng magulang ay i-educate ang anak nila ukol sa moral sexual relations at ang mga consequences ng immoral sexual relations, ayon sa Salita ng Diyos. Turuan din ang inyong anak tungkol sa pagbubuntis at sa katauhan ng sanggol sa sinapupunan. Ang pagbubuntis kasi ay hindi kasalanan. Ang pagkakasala ay ang sexual relations outside of marriage. Ang pagbubuntis ay isang natural consequence ng sexual act, whether or not married ang isang tao. Ang sanggol ay walang kasalanan, at hindi siya dapat ang “alisin” o “mawala” sa pamamagitan ng pagpatay o abortion. Turuan ang anak na ang abortion ay hindi option kapag siya ay nabuntis o nakabuntis.

Ang pagsupport o pag-release din sa pagpapakasal ng anak, na nasa tamang gulang, kaysa pagpigil nito ay importante. May magulang na ayaw ipakasal ang anak agad dahil sa demands nila sa anak, kaya ang anak ay nasasabik sa kanyang nobyo o nobya at nauuwi sa premarital sexual relations.

Nandyan din ang disiplina sa mga anak upang maiwasan ang premarital sexual relations: curfew, gabay sa pagpili ng kaibigan, pag-gabay at pag-monitor ng pinapanood na sine, palabas, o video, pag-monitor ng websites na tinitingnan, pag-monitor ng binabasang libro, magasin at komiks. Are you pregnant and considering abortion? Read this beautiful blog post of former Philippine beauty queen (but today she is still beautiful in every way) Joyce Burton-Titular. In this blog post, Joyce starts by showing her readers a beautiful photo of her lovely daughter Diandra on the occasion of Diandra's birthday. In the context of this joyful celebration, Joyce narrates what happened 20 years ago when she was in a crisis because of her pregnancy with Diandra. She was pregnant but she wanted to abort her baby because she felt it was inconvenient for her to be pregnant at that time. But God spoke to her through her best friend and paradoxically, through her abortion doctor. Joyce describes how her best friend was so angry with her for wanting an abortion but she still drove her to the abortion doctor. But the abortion doctor, upon learning that Joyce was 4 months pregnant already, actually counselled Joyce to keep her baby. Does this story mean that it is ok to abort a baby before three months? No, not at all. But this story is a triumph of God's unfailing love, mercy and grace for a young confused woman (Joyce) who thought abortion would solve her inconvenient pregnancy. More than that, Joyce's story is a celebration of the life of Diandra, her lovely and precious daughter. Joyce kept Diandra after the turn of events at the abortion doctor, and today as she looks with pride at her daughter for blooming into who she is now. What's more, Joyce was able to ask forgiveness from Diandra for wanting to abort her when she was in Joyce's womb. Diandra extended her forgiveness to her mom, and because Diandra permitted her mom to share her "brush with abortion" story, first at her church as a testimony, then on the internet through her blog, we are all being touched by Joyce and Diandra's story. We recently celebrated my daughter Diandra’s 20th birthday in our family’s traditional quiet way of marking such personal milestones. I bought her a lovely black and white muumuu gown so she could wear it to please my eye. I love watching her because she is a reflection of me and a reminder of God’s grace in my life.

A little more than twenty and a half years ago, when I found myself pregnant for the 2nd time, I was shocked. It was a bad time to get pregnant – I was in my early 20s with a son who was 1 and a half years old. I was a beauty queen with a modeling and acting career that was starting to pick up again. It just wasn’t a great time to get pregnant.

So I struggled with the idea of abortion.

I thought it was the only way to “fix” the situation. To make sure my career didn’t stall again. Because if it did, how could I ever support my little boy? I already had him and knew that there was no way I could handle another child. Although I was surrounded by family (and my partially-estranged husband) and knew that I could run to them with my troubles, I kept my state a secret and felt so ALONE in my predicament.

But I did have ONE person in my life that I could talk to. My best friend Maureen. I clearly recall the day I told her about my plan to get an abortion. I had found a doctor but was too afraid to go alone. She really blew her top that day and got so angry at me, I was utterly gobsmacked. I had never seen my flouncy Maureen, my party animal girlfriend so red in the face and dead seriously mad at me.

But I told her that no matter what she felt, I was going to get an abortion and THAT was the end of it.

Then she said the most astonishing thing. She said to me, “Joyce, I hate abortion but I love you. And I will be by your side all the way hating it but loving you. I will go with you to the doctor.” I cried a river of tears because I realized that in my most broken moment, I was with a true friend.

So it was on a humid August afternoon twenty and a half years ago that my best friend and I entered the cold hallway of the clinic together with our hearts beating fast. My hands were even colder than the place and I was quaking ever so slightly. If you had looked into my eyes at that moment, you would have seen a scared, confused and lost girl, not knowing what was wrong or right. I was leading myself to the gallows and you would have felt so sorry for me.

After the long check up was done, another astonishing thing was said to me, this time by the doctor. He said, “Iha (Child), I won’t do it. You’re already 4 months and you might die. Tell your family about it, I’m sure in the long run they will be okay with it.”

To this day, I don’t know why I accepted those words so EASILY specially since at the time I was SO dead-set on doing the deed. Why did I not go to another doctor when I knew that there were many out there who would’ve been willing to take my case in spite of the danger?

And why did my heart leap with joy when the doctor said he wouldn’t do it?

I cannot explain it except for one thing…

God had his hand on my daughter and when He spoke, I somehow heard and followed.

Isn’t that funny? Hearing God’s voice through my party animal friend and even more shocking, through an abortion doctor? And me, a Christian only by name, being spoken to by the God of all time? Up to this day I shake my head in wonder over how these things could be true.

I guess that all things ARE possible with such a gracious God.

And so, Maureen and I left that cold and dreary clinic grinning like high school kids skipping all the way to her car. What was started out as a dreadful day had suddenly become bright and hopeful. And because Maureen is the consummate party animal, she had only one way to deal with this wonderful development: By driving off to a fancy restaurant, cracking open a bottle of champagne (I only took a few sips, promise!) and having a quiet little dinner party to celebrate the good news: I was keeping my BABY!

When Diandra was about 16 years old, I was asked to share this story at my church but I couldn’t because she had NO idea of my near-brush with abortion. Nevertheless I knew the story had to be told. Maybe there was someone who needed to hear it. Someone struggling between life and abortion. So I went to my daughter and told her what I almost did. I asked for her forgiveness and after an hour of us crying plus the peace negotiating of her step-dad Ron, she forgave me.

On a different occasion I shared this story with some friends. Afterwards, one of them cried and admitted she had an abortion and carried that memory like a cross. I told her that all she needed to do was to give that burden to God. He is willing to swap loads with her anyway – and the good news is that His load is LIGHT!!! So we cried and prayed together and asked for forgiveness. And then we spent the rest of the time talking about her little child in heaven and how much God loved the both of them.

Christians Must Not Be Apathetic About the RH Bill Issue

Many Christians think that the RH Bill debate is only of concern to the Catholics, who are against all forms of artificial contraception because it is against their doctrine. May we realize that as Christians, it affects us just as it affects Catholics! May we not be lulled into apathy about the RH bill. Also, it is important that we not join with those who malign the Catholic church.

Why musn't we be apathetic about the RH Bill issue?

1. Because the RH bill, once it's a law, will affect Christian schools and Christian children. The government-mandated sex education (which has to be taught with government materials ONLY) will ALSO BE REQUIRED of Christian schools. These are modules, patterned after the American/Western modules, which will teach different sexual acts, self-gratification, sexual perversions and homosexual acts, along with the "real" health-related lectures on sexually transmitted disease prevention(which are needed). Take note that these modules will make NO MORAL JUDGMENTS on sex and relationships and marriage. Yet the word of God is clear about what is immoral and despicable in God's eyes! Consider the following verses:

1 Cor 6:18-20

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

Lev 18:22

Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.

God has set moral standards of what is right and what is wrong. God call sexual immorality a sin, and He says that homosexual sexual acts are detestable. Do you want "amoral" and "immoral" sex education for your kids? Do you want it to be taught to your kids? Take note, the RH bill will punish and fine anyone who spreads wrong/contrary information about RH which are against the bill's mandated RH information. What if our Christian teachings on sexual immorality and sexual purity do not agree with the RH bill? We better be prepared for the consequences of disagreeing.

2. Because Christians also believe that life begins at conception. So any form of birth control that ends a conceived human life, or prevents a conceived life from living or continuing, is ABORTION. IUDs kill conceived embryos. They work by irritating the uterus lining so that no embryo will be able to implant. Certain birth control pills also work by killing conceived embryos, especially what they call the "emergency contraceptive" or the "morning-after pill". Even before we were conceived in our mother's womb, we started a dream in God's mind. In Jeremiah 1: 5 God said to Jeremiah : "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." At the moment of conception, we are already a separate, unique, distinct living being, having our own set of chromosomes. All of us living humans who were not aborted (or successfully aborted, as some have survived) all started our lives as an embryo. Our difference from all these aborted children is that our mothers let us live, or in some cases, their mothers did not succeed in aborting them.

3. Because Christians must not allow abortion to be condoned. The RH bill has a provision on requiring the "management of post-abortion complications". This condones abortion, which is a crime in the Philippines. Women who abort/kill their unborn children are already managed by hospitals. Why does it have to be specifically written in a bill, that post-abortion complications should be managed? Why not say , manage all obstetric emergencies? The specification of the management of post-abortion complications sets apart abortion as a procedure necessitating management of complications. This "special treatment" of abortion condones abortion, which is still a CRIME, because abortion KILLS another human being. There is also a provision in the RH bill that includes education on the "proscription of the hazards of abortion". This relegates abortion to just a "procedure" that has hazards. This totally lays aside the LIFE of the unborn baby that is killed during abortion. Abortion is 100% fatal and 100% hazardous to the unborn baby.

So Christians, think again... do not let your mind be swayed by unbiblical world-views that do not make moral judgments on sexual relations. Do not let your principles and convictions be based on "political correctness" and the ideas of Western, liberal thinkers who do not honor God and who disdain unborn babies' lives.

Our Stand on the RH Bill

1. We do not want the RH Bill to be passed because it condones abortion. The RH bill has provisions for “management of post-abortion complications”. People who have committed the crime of abortion /killed their own children through abortion should be held accountable. Abortion is murder of the unborn child. The law itself , The Revised Penal Code of the Philippines, and their consciences judge them, not the health professionals. Abortion is a crime in the Philippines and it should always be. The RH bill propagandists say there is nothing about legalizing abortion in the RH bill but clearly, it condones abortion through requiring “management of post-abortion complications”. What about “care” for the aborted child who was not allowed to live? It would be too late to care for them now. Right now, hospitals already care for women who abort their children. Why put it into law when it is already being done?

2. We do not want the RH bill to be passed because it will institutionalize distribution of contraceptives through the government. As a congressman has said, there is already freedom of choice now. The RH bill will only be a conduit and springboard for government-backed purchases of contraceptives amounting to millions of US dollars.

3. We do not want the RH bill to be passed because certain contraceptives are abortifacient, or abortion-causing. They cause early abortion of an embryo or fetus. Since life begins at conception, then terminating an embryo by preventing it from implanting is killing an unborn child. Christian doctrine does not go against using condoms, since no embryo is formed when condoms are used. But intrauterine devices prevent implantation of embryos. Some birth control pills and “emergency contraceptives” prevent implantation of formed embryos. We are against all forms of abortifacient contraceptives that cause early abortions of embryos by preventing implantation.

4. We do not want the RH bill to be passed because it will penalize anyone who will “knowingly withhold information or impede the dissemination thereof, and/or intentionally provide incorrect information regarding programs and services on reproductive health.” That is not democratic at all. Getting imprisoned for something one disagrees on. So much for “freedom of choice” and freedom of speech. We stand with the Catholics who are being maligned for rejecting the contents of the RH bill because it is against their Church doctrines.

5. We do not want the RH bill to be passed because it mandates reproductive health education in schools from Grade 5 up, which includes discussions on sexuality, sexual behaviour and sexual health. The content of such educational materials may be objectionable to Christian doctrine and against the teachings of the Bible on sexuality and morality, which is unacceptable to Christians and must not be allowed to be taught to our children.

My 13-year old grandson asked me yesterday: "Lolo, why are you against the RH Bill?"

I looked at him and said: "If they passed it eighty, fifty, or even fifteen

We strongly oppose the passage of the Reproductive Health Bill (HB5043 for
the following reasons:

1. AS EMPLOYERS, we do not want to be compelled to provide free
reproductive health care services, supplies, devices and surgical
procedures (including vasectomy and ligation) to our employees, and be
subjected to both imprisonment and/or a fine, for every time that we fail
to comply. (Section 17 states that employers shall provide for free
delivery of reproductive health care services, supplies and devices to all
workers more particularly women workers. (Definition of Reproductive
Health and Rights Section 4, paragraph g, Section 21, Paragraph c and
Section 22 on Penalties)

2. AS HEALTH CARE SERVICE PROVIDERS, we do not want to be subjected to
imprisonment and/or a fine, if we fail to provide reproductive health care
services such as giving information on family planning methods and
providing services like ligation and vasectomy, regardless of the
patient's civil status, gender, religion or age (Section 21 on Prohibited
Acts, Letter a, Paragraphs 1 to 5 and Section 22 on Penalties)

3. AS SPOUSES, we do not agree that our husband or wife can undergo a
ligation or vasectomy without our consent or knowledge. (Section 21 on
Prohibited Acts, Letter a, Paragraph 2)

4. AS PARENTS, we do not agree that children from age 10 to 17 should be
taught their sexual rights and the means to have a satisfying and "safe"
sex life as part of their school curriculum. (Section 12 on Reproductive
Health Education and Section 4 Definition of Family Planning and
Productive Health, Paragraph b, c and d)

5. AS CITIZENS, we do not want to be subjected to imprisonment and/or pay
a fine, for expressing an opinion against any provision of this law, if
such expression of opinion is interpreted as constituting "malicious
disinformation" (Section 21 on Prohibited Acts, Paragraph f and Section 22
on Penalties)

6. We also oppose other provisions such as losing our parental authority
over a minor child who was raped and found pregnant (Section 21, a, no.3)

7. We also do not agree to the provision which reclassifies contraceptives
as essential medicines (Section 10) and appropriating limited government
funds to reproductive services instead of basic services (Section 23)

Thus, we urge you to immediately stop deliberations on the bill and stop
wasting taxpayers money.

Fr. Melvin Castro, executive secretary of the Episcopal Commission on Family and Life of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (ECFL-CBCP) said the Church plans to help create a coalition of groups specifically to oppose attempts to pass an anti-life "reproductive health" bill through the Senate.
"We are going to organize all our family and life groups that will vote as a bloc for only those candidates who are really pro-family and pro-life," said Fr. Castro. "This is to safeguard that only our allies in family and life will be elected."
"Candidates who will sign and give their commitment to our campaign, these are the candidates who will be supported by our commission," said Castro.
The announcement comes in the wake of protests by the bishops and other pro-life groups against a proposed Reproductive Health and Population Development Act. House Bill (HB) 5043, proposes to legalise abortifacient birth control and impose explicit and mandatory "reproductive health and sexuality education" beginning in fifth grade.
The idea for the family-and-life voting bloc, said Fr. Castro, "came from the laity, not the hierarchy," and is organized by "religious and laypeople, regardless of religion, who share the concern for family and life issues." The clergy, he said, will act in a supportive role only, with the initiative coming from the laity.
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has expressed a fear that the bill is being railroaded through the process without sufficient debate.
A group of alumni of Philippine universities have warned that HB 5043 violates the constitution, Section 12 of which recognizes that human life must be protected from the moment of conception. The group, in a position paper, said the bill is using "wrong means to achieve questionable ends" by promoting abortion through the "back door" of promotion of abortifacient contraception.
Catholic Alumni United for Life said, "The grave stakes involved (the death of a human being) places the burden of proof on those who would provide such contraceptives to prove that these are in fact non-abortifacientà[W]e must err on the side of caution and not place the lives of the unborn at risk. HB 5043, however, explicitly promotes and funds such abortifacients."

LANSDOWN, Virginia, June 1, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - As Canada and several U.S. states mull over legislation to legalize assisted suicide or euthanasia, one Belgian man has claimed that silent acceptance of euthanasia in his country has led to unspeakable routine abuse, and is warning the Western hemisphere to be on guard against the encroaching euthanasia agenda.

Lionel Roosemont told his story at the Second International Symposium on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide, held May 29-30 at the National Conference Center in Lansdown, Virginia. The conference was hosted by the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, and co-sponsored by anti-euthanasia groups around the world.

Roosemont says he came face-to-face with the euthanasia culture in Belgium upon learning that his unborn daughter Tikvah, now 13 years old, would suffer severe disabilities related to hydrocephalus. Encouraged to abort Tikvah, Roosemont says he and his wife Renate decided to "swim against the current," and gave birth to their daughter.

Despite lacking most of her brain, the girl proved capable of movement, sight, and hearing, contrary to her doctors' dire forecasts. Though harrowed by the fight to preserve Tikvah's life from ending in abortion, said Roosemont, "it was some of the training we needed to [fight] the equally horrible monster called euthanasia."

In 2002, Belgium passed a law allowing euthanasia as requested by a patient under "constant and unbearable physical or psychological pain" who has issued written consent. A third doctor's opinion must be sought if the illness is not terminal, and a one-month waiting period is mandatory for patients suffering from depression.

Roosemont described the prejudice Tikvah received in a society that, he says, "changed dramatically since [the] euthanasia law was adopted."

"Life is more and more losing its value," said Roosemont. "Can you understand why our daughter is never left alone in a hospital?"

In an interview with LifeSiteNews.com, Roosemont insisted that the actual practice of euthanasia in Belgium disregards the "safeguards" attached to the law. "We have a huge problem with lawlessness," he said. Roosemont claimed that the law is commonly transgressed "without there being any consequences."

Roosemont cited a 2006 report in the medical magazine Huisarts, written by Dr. Marc Cosyns - whom he called the "Kevorkian" of Belgium - stating that Cosyns had euthanized a woman suffering from dementia. Although the procedure was patently illegal - not only was the woman not terminally ill, but she was not fully lucid and had not given written consent - Cosyns was not punished.

"The problem with us is that it's almost become a law [to disregard the safeguards]," said Roosemont.

In his speech to the conference, Roosemont showed a video interview of one of his elder daughters describing an encounter with a teacher concerning Tikvah. Upon seeing Tikvah for the first time, the teacher said that she ought to be euthanized.

"The actual words: 'She's just a euthanasia child,'" Roosemont told LSN. He said he has heard the sentiment twice.

While the loose application of euthanasia restrictions is widely known among Belgians, said Roosemont, the true depth of abuse is little understood. One such abuse he claimed occurs routinely is the administration of lethal drugs at one Belgian hospital to elderly, seriously ill patients - known as the "weekend cleanup" - as described to him by a nurse who worked there.

"It is logical," he said. "It is very logical. We live in the time of instant coffee. What that means is that nobody wants to suffer." Most of the time, he said, elderly victims of euthanasia are not themselves suffering from great pain, but are killed at the request of family burdened with their care.

But because the subject is still taboo in Belgium, Roosemont says indifference is widespread.

"The subject is taboo in Belgium. Main reason: the law has been voted [upon]," he said. "So many people have become accomplices of killing, or helping, at least approving, so you don't talk about that - and the moment someone starts talking about that, most people start to protect themselves."

Asked to comment on the situation in Canada, where MP Francine Lalonde recently introduced a proposal to legalize euthanasia, Roosemont said, "You will be surprised how fast this thing is coming."

"And if ... the stories that I've been hearing here [are true], there's already red [lights] flashing," he said. "The big risk, I think, is that many countries will be [facing] the same thing that happened with Roe v. Wade. Before they know it, it will be there, and then they will react. The laws will be there. That's what I think. So it's high time to do something to inform as many people as possible."

Roosemont urged anti-euthanasia activists to "tell them the stories - for instance, what happened in Belgium."

"Be alert! Not many people know what is hanging over their heads," said Roosemont. "Don't say I didn't warn you. And please, don't run away from the responsibilities."

Baby Faith Dies at 93 Days – Doctors Had Pressured Mother to Abort Anencephalic Daughter

MONCTON, May 27, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Myah Walker has described the time from her daughter’s birth up until this past Saturday, May 23, as the “best 93 days of my life.” Faith Hope Walker, the baby about whom LifeSiteNews had previously reported, passed away peacefully this weekend in the arms of her mother, a 23 year-old student living in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Myah, who maintained a weblog of her daughter’s life, wrote on Saturday, “She looked up at me and opened her beautiful eyes, and I realized what was happening. I told her to go with Jesus. I told her that I loved her and that it was ok, that I would meet her in Heaven.”

Faith was born with a condition called anencephaly, in which a portion of the child’s brain fails to fully develop. With the prevalence in the medical community of eugenic abortion, the great majority of such children are not allowed to live until birth.

Myah has said that she was pressured by hospital staff to have Faith killed before birth via abortion. Doctors told her that Faith was alive only because "she was attached" to her mother and that even if she survived to birth, she would be neither able to hear nor see.

Myah, a believing Christian, was told by doctors that she could continue the pregnancy without risk, "Or, I could choose to induce early to terminate the pregnancy."

She wrote, “For some reason I had to give the doctors my decision over and over again, which was frustrating. One doctor asked, 'Can I ask why you want to continue this pregnancy?' I guess some people are baffled by unconditional love.”

When the baby was born, she was apparently able to both see and hear and suffered no health problems other than anencephaly. No medication was required in Faith’s daily care and she was able to breastfeed, although she also received nutrition through a tube.

As a “lethal foetal anomaly,” anencephaly is widely considered justification for abortion or “early induction” of birth, even by some Catholic ethicists.

As LifeSiteNews.com has reported, Fr. Michael Prieur, the chief ethicist for the diocese of London in Ontario, Canada has justified the procedure for lethal foetal anomaly in his work at St. Joseph’s Catholic Hospital in London. He wrote in a June 1997 paper that the hospital had been using early induction for children diagnosed with anencephaly since 1985.

"I am not going to get into all the reasons why or why not President Obama should or shouldn't have been invited to speak at Notre Dame. The fact is, he was and he spoke and that is what I want to address.

I can imagine that for any graduate to have the President of the United States of America come to speak at his or her graduation ceremony would be an amazing experience. Even if you didn't vote for that President, it would be an honor to know he picked your school's invitation to speak. Even though I am adamantly against many of the President Obama's policies, I must still respect the office he holds.

I know many pro-lifers from around the country were at Notre Dame to protest and pray as they felt it was an abomination for such and ardently pro-abortion president to speak at a Catholic University. I was invited to come and speak and join some of the groups in their protests and prayer vigils. The fact that my wife is due in just a few days with our sixth child made the decision to stay home and watch it on TV an easy one.

I was very intrigued to hear what he could possibly have to say about abortion to a Catholic University, as the news mentioned he would speak extensively on this issue. I could not imagine him suddenly taking some kind of pro-life position. What he did was try an pacify pro-lifers with false, fluffy nonsense about common ground and reducing abortions.

Common ground? I am sick and tired of hearing people talk about common ground when it comes to the slaughter of innocent children. Our ground is stained with the blood of over 50,000,000 baby boys and girls whose deaths cry out for justice.

Let me ask you this.

Would you be willing to find common ground with someone advocating for legalized rape?

Would you be willing to find common ground with someone advocating the reinstitution of the Third Reich and Nazi policies?

Of course not, these are ludicrous statements. I would also argue that finding common ground with those who advocate for the killing of fully human pre-born children is a ludicrous idea.

What if Adolf Hitler gave a speech to the Allied Forces asking us to find common ground and just find a way to reduce the number of Jews being killed? We are talking about genocide here; simply reducing it is not an option. In the same way, the abortion holocaust is genocide and simply reducing the killing is not an option.

President Obama's saying he wants to reduce abortions is also a out-and-out lie as he released millions of our taxpayer dollars to pay for overseas abortion within three days of taking office. He also vowed to sign the so called “Freedom of Choice Act” which would completely deregulate the abortion industry and wipe out what few restrictions there are in place now.

While I do believe we must reach out in love to women who are seeking abortions and offer them an alternative and the hope we have in Christ, I will not meet the abortion issue with the hospitality President Obama spoke of.

The reason his words sounded to elegant and tickled so many ears as he spoke of such nonsense is because people have been blinded by the pro-abortion rhetoric beginning with the belief that it is about choice. There are certain things in life that cannot be left to someone's personal choice and killing a baby is one of those.

President Obama is an amazing orator was able to make people think that he is truly concerned about abortion and pro-life issues, I can't tell you how many people I know who think he is pro-life. The professor that was interviewed outside the graduation ceremony was trying to say that President Obama is the best thing for the pro-life movement because he wants to reduce abortions instead of wanting to end abortion.

I am sorry but I must reiterate that simply reducing the number of babies being killed is not what I and Stand True and the pro-life movement are fighting for. We want every single human person from the moment of fertilization to be fully protected.

The problem is we are allowing abortion to fall in a different category than every other act of homicide. But abortion is not a different act; it is a different method of the act of homicide. It is still one person killing another person.

One of the things the news kept repeating during their coverage of the whole Notre Dame scandal was a new Zogby Poll in which they declare the a majority of Americans now call themselves pro-life. As someone who travels the country for much of the year for the past 18 years, I already knew this. The majority of the people I meet in my travels identify themselves as pro-life, whether it is on an airplane, in a store or anywhere else I go.

So the next step is to get that majority to not only call themselves pro-life, but act like they believe abortion is an act of homicide. We need to activate this generation to be a voice so loud and so clear that we have no choice but to protect the lives of the innocent, fully human, pre-born children who are being killed almost 4,000 times a day.

Mr. President. I will offer NO hospitality to the killing of innocent children; there is NO common ground when it comes to ground that is stained with the blood of millions of innocent children.

Christians have been deceived into believing the overpopulation myth that says that poverty is due to our vast population. This is a severely flawed way of thinking that blames hunger and poverty in a country on the number of people it has. They have the simplistic notion that there is hunger because there are too many people to feed. Maybe you even accept this theory. You say, it's so obvious, a man with ten children can't feed all his kids! The more Filipinos to feed, the more hunger we will have in the Philippines. Have you ever stopped to think if your views
agreed with the word of God? Have you ever stopped to think if your views made sense?

The word of God says, that sons are a heritage from the Lord, children are a reward, sons are like arrows, and blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them! Children are a blessing, both to a family and to a country. When we look down on children as a burden, we are going against the word of God. We must be aware that it is this mentality that considers children as a burden, and
not as a blessing from God, that breeds the birth control mentality, which considers pregnancy as a curse and as a roadblock to worldly success, which then leads to the abortion mentality, which places absolutely no value on the life of an unborn baby so they can be killed on demand.

The word of God also says in Malachi 2:15 Has He not made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. The Lord puts man and woman together in a marriage covenant because He was seeking godly offspring. The Lord is looking for godly offspring, not birth control of the offspring. The children are a burden to the family and to the nation mentality is not consistent with the word of God!

The overpopulation concept fosters the birth control mentality. It argues that if you are overpopulated, you have to reduce the population. It says that hunger is brought about by having too many people to feed, thus the solution is to reduce the number of people to feed. An overpopulated country is thus told it needs birth control drugs as the solution to their problem. And to sell more and more contraceptives, drug companies and birth control advocates
working together convince the government to make birth control a national policy. If its a national policy, then the government must distribute the drugs through it Health Department. And such contracts amount to hundreds of millions of pesos.

Whats worse is that in other countries, population control or birth control includes abortion. Their pro-abortion, pro-birth control governments consider abortion as a reproductive right or a woman's right to choose. And you have the pro-abortion advocates like the Center for Reproductive Rights, a U.S.-based non-governmental organization which has as their main goal the overturning of sovereign nations policies on abortion through legislative and judicial change. As Christians we do not realize that by accepting the birth control mentality we are actually becoming allies with these pro-death, pro-abortion groups. The word of God says: Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? ... (2 Cor 6:14-16)

The reason why there is hunger in the Philippines is not because we are too many. I believe its because there is lack of distribution of wealth between the rich and the poor. I believe it's because of the greed and plunder of past government leaders, which made our country's economy fall and become unstable, which then lessened the peso's purchasing power. I believe its because of the continued greed of many government officials who steal from the coffers of the nation so that food, electricity, irrigation, and roads do not make it to the rest of the population. We must not reduce the number of people because they're "too many". People are the riches of a nation.

The Strategy of Prayer

For some time, I have been "snooping around" pro-abortion websites to see what their strategies are in advancing their "cause" , to see how we can counter their strategies.

But the Lord showed me that here is the greatest weapon--that no pro-abortion person will ever know or be able to use---the weapon of prayer. When we pray, we are communicating and conversing with the King of Kings, the Alpha and the Omega, the Faithful and True Lamb of God. Psalm 22:28 says that dominion belongs to the Lord and He rules over the nations. Psalm 94:2 says that God is the judge of the earth. Pro-abortion persons think the way they think because they don't believe in God or they outright hate Him. But whether they believe in Him or not does not change the fact that God exists, that He rules over the nations, and that He is the judge of the earth whom everyone will face and who will one day judge everyone on earth.

In 2 Kings 6:17, Elisha asked God to open the eyes of his servant--that His servant could see the multitude of fiery horses and chariots of the Lord fighting for them. And this was just two people! (Think of it, before the servant's eyes were opened, it was just ONE person, Elisha, who saw the fiery army of God!) May we always see the fiery armies around us everytime we pray the will of God! And may we always pray militantly!

When you are the Lord's bondservant, the Lord gives you the keys to the kingdom of heaven--what you bind is bound, what you loose is loosed(Matt.16:19)...you can call things that are not as though they were(Romans 4:17). You can pray God's will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.(Matt. 6:10)

This strategy of prayer can never be equalled. Why? Because it is from God, who made the heaven and the earth. When you pray God's heart, or when the Holy Spirit shows you God's heart and you pray for His heart and will to be done, you are walking in all the power of God! What's more, Colossians 2:3 says that in the Lord Jesus are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. If we remain in Christ, all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are available to us. The Holy Spirit tells us what to pray for and what to do.All the knowledge, wisdom and strategy we need for the pro-life ministry God has given are in the Lord Jesus! Thanks be to God!

Life Site News: CNN Rejects Life-Affirming Ad - 2nd Major Network to Do So

February 20, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - For the past number of weeks an extraordinarily popular, life-affirming ad by Catholicvote.com has been making the rounds on the internet, having been viewed 1.6 million times on Youtube alone. However, the makers of the ad are now reporting that CNN has refused to air the ad on its station, making it the second major network to reject the ad and its positive message.

The ad shows an ultrasound of a baby in a womb, while superimposed text explains that during his life the baby's father will abandon him, and his single mother will struggle to support him. But, "despite the hardships he will endure," the ad continues. "This child will become the 1st African American President." The ad concludes with a picture of President Obama and the slogan, "Life. Imagine the Potential."

Due to its popularity, the ad's makers had originally sought to have it aired during the Super Bowl on NBC. But the ad was rejected, ostensibly because of its "advocacy."

In a letter to supporters, Brian Burch from Catholicvote.com, says that following the NBC rejection, "We contacted CNN, thinking their audience contains precisely the type of people we want to reach. Further, given CNN's track record of running advocacy ads, we were confident we would succeed. Not so."

Burch reports that after several weeks of repeatedly contacting the network, he has received a letter from CNN, reading: "Thank you for your patience. We have decided to pass on this creative. CNN doesn't accept advocacy ads that portray personal decisions in a manner that suggests a position in favor of the advocacy message, without having permission of the persons involved."

Burch, however, says that the excuse is "absurd." In the first place, he observes, the ad does not in any way suggest that President Obama himself is pro-life. He also points out that CNN has in the past accepted ads that have imputed positions to individuals, without their permission.

In 2005 CNN ran an ad sponsored by the pro-abortion activist organization NARAL, that indicated that Judge Roberts "excused" violence against abortion clinics. FactCheck.org called the ad "false" and described that ad like this: "An abortion-rights group is running an attack ad accusing Supreme Court nominee John Roberts of filing legal papers 'supporting ... a convicted clinic bomber' and of having an ideology that 'leads him to excuse violence against other Americans' It shows images of a bombed clinic in Birmingham, Alabama."

Burch observed, "CNN is willing to run ads insinuating that a federal judge supports violent criminal activity, but it won't allow an ad celebrating the potential of all human life, including Barack Obama?"

Burch concluded his letter, saying, "Of course, all is not lost. CNN's refusal will only create more attention for our ad, which has been widely discussed even among abortion groups like NARAL and nationally-syndicated columnist Ellen Goodman. The ad remains a viral hit on the Internet … We have successfully provoked a national conversation about the gift of every human life -- which is why we created the ad to begin with."

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 23, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – One day after the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, President Obama has signed an order to lift the Mexico City policy, a Reagan-era policy that prohibits taxpayer funds from going to organizations that promote or perform abortions overseas.

Population Action International, a pro-abortion group, praised Obama's decision, saying in a statement that it will "save women's lives around the world."

"Women's health has been severely impacted by the cutoff of assistance," said the group. "President Obama's actions will help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies, abortions and women dying from high-risk pregnancies because they don't have access to family planning."

Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelse, however, strongly criticized Obama's move, saying: "America should respond to women's needs in developing countries with real assistance that also upholds their dignity, not by promoting or paying for abortions. I am disappointed by President Obama’s decision to bypass the will of American taxpayers and promote the radical agenda of Planned Parenthood and the abortion lobby."

It was widely anticipated that Obama would sign the executive order yesterday, on the 36th anniversary of Roe. In 1993 former president Bill Clinton had revoked the policy on that day, while George Bush reinstated the policy on his first day in office in 2001, the day before the Roe anniversary.

Instead of signing the order yesterday, however, Obama instead issued a statement defending Roe, while speaking of the need to find “common ground” in the “divisive” and "sensitive" abortion debate.

In yesterday’s statement Obama explained, “I remain committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose.” Nevertheless, he said, “we must work to find common ground to expand access to affordable contraception, accurate health information, and preventative services.”

While the decision not to revoke the policy yesterday was cautiously interpreted by some as evidence that Obama may not be as extreme on abortion as he has promised to be, and would not force taxpayers to pay for abortions, pro-life and pro-abortion organizations did not have to wait long for Obama to prove his solidly pro-abortion credentials.

"President Obama not long ago told the American people that he would support policies to reduce abortions, but today he is effectively guaranteeing more abortions by funding groups that promote abortion as a method of population control," said Douglas Johnson, legislative director of the National Right to Life Committee.

The Mexico City policy was considered by many to be one of the most effective pro-life policies of the Bush and Reagan administrations. International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), one of the most pro-abortion organizations in the world, told the BBC today that under the Bush administration, thanks to the Mexico City Policy, the organisation had lost more than $100m (£73m) in funding.

Sadly, one of the first things the new US president did was to reverse former Pres. The word of God compels us to stand for life. Our love for God drives us to speak up for the unborn generation.

He wrote that even if pro-abortion politicians get elected and abortion laws get enacted, the value of life itself does not diminish.

The more the Church, the body of Christ, must shine the light of the word of truth and expose deeds of darkness for what they are.

The popularity of what is wrong does not diminish the truth of the word of God.

We have to be the salt and light in a decaying and dark generation, even if being salt and light is unpopular.

We are to be witnesses for God's truth, whether or not we are liked for doing so.

Losing Ground - Moving Forward by Jim Lamb, Director, Lutherans for Life

Respect for the value of human life lost more ground yesterday:

*We elected the most pro-abortion president ever to sit in the White House.
*The State of Washington legalized assisted suicide.
*Michigan legalized unrestricted destruction of human embryos for research purposes.
*California said no to requiring that minors to obtain parental consent for an abortion.
*Colorado failed to pass an amendment affirming that life begins at conception.
*South Dakota failed for the second time to ban most abortions in the state.

Yes, respect for the value of human life lost ground, but the value of human life itself cannot be diminished, for it comes from God:

*Every human life is created and gifted by God.
*Every human life is someone for whom Jesus Christ paid the price of His blood.
*God desires to call every human life into His Kingdom according to His purpose.
*The objective reality of the God-given value of human life increases the travesty of what we did yesterday, but what we did yesterday does not decrease that reality.

The Good News is that Jesus Christ continues to live and reign to all eternity. God has put all things under His feet. He is in charge of the nations and governments. We trust in Him to use governments according to His will for the sake of His people. But we do not trust in government to restore respect for the value of human life.

That is why Lutherans For Life will continue to assist pastors and congregations to connect the Word of Life to the life issues so that hearts and lives will be changed. That is needed more than ever.

Many Christians, undoubtedly not understanding the full scope of what they were doing, were part of yesterday's collective voice that diminished respect for life. Fear of the economy, fear of pain and suffering, fear of embarrassing and difficult situations overrode their fear of God and trust in His love demonstrated in Jesus.

Ground was lost yesterday.

But Lutherans For Life will continue to move forward striving to do all we can to help Lutheran congregations apply the life-changing message of the Gospel to the life issues.

We will continue to seek to restore respect and reverence for the gift of life within the Church so the Church will once again be part of a collective voice that restores this respect in our country.

"There Are Too Many Israelites!":Pharaoh's Population Control Program

In the Bible, there is one person who complained that there are "too many Israelites": Pharaoh.

Exodus 1:9 "Look," he said to his people, "the Israelites have become much too numerous for us.

His solution? Slave labor.

Exod 1:9-13
"Look," he said to his people, "the Israelites have become much too numerous for us.Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country."So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites and worked them ruthlessly.

What happened? The more the Israelites increased.

Pharaoh's next solution? Infanticide, by talking to the midwives to kill the babies.

Exod 1:15-16
The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah, "When you help the Hebrew women in childbirth and observe them on the delivery stool, if it is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live."

What happened? The midwives did not kill the babies because THEY FEARED GOD.

The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live.

What happened to the midwives?

So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.

Pharaoh's next solution? Infanticide, by throwing the baby boys in the river

Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: "Every boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live."

What did Moses' mom do? She did not throw him into the river, but she placed him in a basket. She placed him up for adoption. And he ended up being used mightily by God to deliver Israel.

Now a man of the house of Levi married a Levite woman,and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months.But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile.

Are there really "too many Filipinos"? What is wrong with having a large population? Will reducing the number of hungry people solve the hunger problem? Or do politicians who steal money from the government want to lessen the number of their constituents so they would have less people under their responsibility, so it won't be so obvious that the money for the new school building is missing because the number of students are less?

Who are we to say that we have to reduce the number of people in the next generation when we have been allowed to live ourselves?

Oral Contraceptives: One can still get pregnant

Oral contraceptives are believed by many as not being an abortifacient. Manufacturers say it is not abortifacient. However, let us remember that life begins at conception. Therefore anything that kills a conceived life from the time of conception is essentially an abortifacient. Life begins at conception, not at implantation into the uterine wall. The living human being began his or her life at the moment the haploid cells of his mom and dad came together to become a zygote.

You are probably wondering, why is an oral contraceptive an abortifacient?

There are two types of artificial contraceptives: one that prevents the sperm and egg from meeting (like the condom) and another that makes the uterine lining hostile to a conceived life (IUDs and birth control pills). The birth control pill primarily acts to suppress ovulation(release of eggs) by tinkering with the body's negative feedback mechanism for the female hormones that cause the release of eggs by the ovaries. However, this action is not written in stone. It is not foolproof and 100% effective. Eggs can still be released and subsequently fertilized by a sperm, conceiving a new life, a human being.

This is from the product monograph of an oral contraceptive in the US:

"The pregnancy rate in women using conventional-dosage oral contraceptives (containing 35 mcg or more of ethinyl estradiol or 50 mcg or more of mestranol) is generally reported as less than one pregnancy per 100 woman-years of use. Slightly higher rates (somewhat more than one pregnancy per 100 woman-years) reportedly occur with some oral preparations containing 35 mcg or less of ethinyl estradiol, and rates of about 3 pregnancies per 100 woman-years reportedly occur with oral contraceptives containing progestins only." This is from Medscape.com.

So pregnancy still occurs. This only means that an egg can still be released AND fertilized even if a woman uses birth control pills.

Furthermore, the product monograph states:

"Conventional-cycle combination products are usually associated with a shortened period of endometrial proliferation followed by an early but brief and limited secretory activity in the epithelium of endometrial glands. After several oral contraceptive cycles, thinning or regression of the endometrium may occur, resulting in reduced menstrual flow or possible amenorrhea."This can also be seen on Medscape.com

An embryo needs to implant his or herself onto his or her mom's uterine wall, on the endometrium. However, if the birth control pill makes the endometrium hostile by thinning it, where will the embryo implant?

There is a 2007 study in the Obstetrics and Gynecology journal, Obstetrics & Gynecology 2007;110:1003-1009 © 2007 by The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Its title is "Pregnancy Risk Among Oral Contraceptive Pill, Injectable Contraceptive, and Condom Users in Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Thailand"

(I disagree with the title "pregnancy risk". Pregnancy is NOT a disease.)

However, the abstract states these results:

"The overall 12-month cumulative probability of pregnancyof injectable contraceptive users was 0.6% (95% confidence interval[CI] 0.3–1.0), with similar risks in Uganda (0.3%, 95%CI 0–0.7), Thailand (0.6%, 95% CI 0–1.2), and Zimbabwe(1.0%, 95% CI 0.3–1.7). The 12-month cumulative probabilityof pregnancy for OCP users was 9.5% (95% CI 8.1–11.0%),with similar risks of pregnancy in Uganda and Zimbabwe (14.6%,95% CI 11.7–17.4; and 10.2%, 95% CI 8.0–12.5, respectively)but substantially lower risk in Thailand (0.5%, 95% CI 0–1.2).The overall 12-month cumulative probability of pregnancy forwomen intending to use a given method at baseline was 2.0% (95%CI 1.4–2.6%) for injectable contraceptives, 15.7% (95%CI 14.1–17.3%) for OCPs, and 25.8% (95% CI 23.2–28.4)for condoms. Women in Thailand experienced lower pregnancy riskwith condoms (18.4%, 95% CI 11.1–25.7) than in Uganda(29.5%, 95% CI 25.7–33.4), and Zimbabwe (23.3%, 95% CI19.4–27.2)."

This just goes to show that oral contraceptives are not 100% reliable in suppressing ovulation. Pregnancy can still occur, which means that eggs are still released. These eggs can still be fertilized to conceive a new human being. However, that new human being can die because of a thinned endometrium. This explains how an oral contraceptive pill can cause death of an embryo and thus have an abortifacient effect.

Have you ever wondered how you, as a Christian, should react toward the Reproductive Health Bill?

Let us examine what the word of God says so that we will be rightly guided. Psalm 119:133 says, "Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me." Let the word of God be the foundation on which we will base our opinions and reactions. For Psalm 119:130 says, "The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple."

The RH Bill is also called the "Reproductive Health and Population Development Bill".Maybe you have heard the idea that the Philippines is overpopulated, that's why it is needed. This "overpopulation" idea that says that poverty is due to our vast population. However, this is a flawed way of thinking that blames hunger and poverty in a country on the number of people it has. It has the simplistic notion that there is hunger because there are too many people to feed. Maybe you even accept this idea. Have you ever stopped to think if your views agreed with the word of God?

The word of God says, that sons are a heritage from the Lord, children are a reward, sons are like arrows, and blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them! Sons are a heritage, an inheritance from the Lord! In Filipino, ang ating mga anak ay mana natin sa Panginoon! More than that, children are a reward. Not just a blessing, but a reward! And the word of God says, blessed is the man whose quiver (or arrow container) is full of them. Children are a blessing, both to a family and to a country. When we look down on children as a burden, we are going against the word of God. We must be aware that the line of thinking that considers children as a burden, and not as a blessing from God, is what breeds the "birth control mentality", which
considers pregnancy as a curse and as a roadblock to worldly success, which then leads to the abortion mentality, which places absolutely no value on the life of an unborn baby so they can be killed on demand.

As Dr. Franklin Payne says in his book "Making Biblical Decisions" : "It appears never to have occurred to the advocates of controlled population development that the logical way out of the chronic situation in which there are more hungry people than food is not by way of reducing the population, but rather of increasing the production of the means of subsistence. Numbers per se are not the disease, so birth control (especially abortion) is not the cure. The fact is, the cure is worse than the problem. There are hidden agendas, motives, and severe distortions of facts."

The word of God also says in Malachi 2:15 "Has He not made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring." The Lord puts man and woman together in a marriage covenant because He was seeking godly offspring. The Lord is looking for godly offspring, not birth control of the offspring. The "children are a burden to the family and to the nation" mentality is not consistent with the word of God.

The main goal of the bill is to reduce the population by reducing pregnancies. This is contrary to what God's word says that "sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from Him.Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth, blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them." (Psalm 127:3-4) In the Bible, Sarah (Abraham's wife), Hannah (Samuel's mother), Elizabeth (the mother of John the Baptist) and Mary (the Lord's mother on earth) all received their pregnancies with joy. Their children all grew up to change the course of history for countless generations.

Government- mandated population control is not Biblical because Psalm 127 says that sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. Government-mandated population control was done in the Bible by Pharaoh in the time of Moses ("the Hebrews are becoming too many, kill them as they are born, throw them in the Nile River") and by Herod in the time of the Lord Jesus( the slaughter of the innocents). One unsuccessful population control law was issued in the time of Esther. The death decree issued by Haman to kill all the Jews was overturned by God through an orphan, Esther, as she risked her life twice to approach the king of Persia under penalty of death, for the sake of her people.

The Bible says in Ephesians 5:11 "Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them." We must not consider abortion acceptable, but rather expose it. Christians may not be aware that the RH bill condones abortion. It does. Abortion is a crime in the Philippines. The Revised Penal Code of the Philippines, Book Two (Crimes and Penalties), Title Eight (Crimes against Persons), Chapter One (Destruction of Life), Section Two- Infanticide and abortion, Article 255-259 says that abortion is a crime. The RH bill even says so, that abortion remains illegal. However, it has a provision that says "government shall ensure that women seeking care for post-abortion complications shall be treated and counseled in a humane, compassionate, and non-judgmental manner." If the bill has nothing to do with abortion, why include this provision? It is already in practice. Hospitals already care for those who have aborted/killed their babies through abortifacient drugs and the use of "hilot". If the bill is for "Reproductive Health and Population Development", post-abortion complication management should have nothing to do with it, because abortion is illegal. The law upholds the baby's life. It makes the people who aborted and who carried it out liable and accountable to the law for killing the baby. The phrase "post-abortion care" is an oxymoron, because "care" is only used for the woman. Abortion, let us remember, is 100% fatal to unborn babies. Someone must care about the baby whose life has been ended by his mom and by whoever forced the mom to kill her baby. The baby's life should be considered. Legalizing post-abortion "care" will put funds into it and will punish non-obedience to the law. Legalizing post-abortion "care" definitely disregards the baby's life. An unborn baby's life is important to God, because Jeremiah 1:5 says,"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you". Psalm 139:13 also says, "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb."

The Bible says that the Lord will demand an accounting for a person's blood that is shed. Genesis 9:5 says, "And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man." The Lord sees every drop of blood that is shed when a person is killed. The Lord sees every drop of blood of every aborted baby. God said to Cain, in Genesis 4:10, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground." Innocent blood that is shed cries out to God for justice. Legalizing post-abortion care will disregard the innocent blood of the baby with regard to the the laws of our land, but there is a Righteous Judge who hears their blood cry out to Him, a Judge who will plead the cause of the unborn baby.

The RH bill also mandates the government and employers to supply contraceptives, including abortifacients, to the nation. Contraceptives include intrauterine devices ( IUDs), condoms and birth control pills. Did you know that some birth control pills and all IUDs can cause death of an embryo? There are two kinds of artificial contraceptives: one that prevents conception(like condoms) and one that kills the embryo before it implants by making the uterus hostile to the embryo (IUDs, birth control pills).We should remember that life begins at conception, therefore, anything that kills a CONCEIVED life, whether that human life is called an embryo or is called a fetus, causes ABORTION. So, as the condom is not an abortifacient, some birth control pills have an abortifacient effect. Birth control pills are not that effective in stopping ovulation, and pill manufacturers know it makes the uterine lining hostile to an embryo. The IUD acts by irritating the uterine lining in order to make the uterus hostile to an embryo. So it also causes death of an embryo.

The RH bill also mandates comprehensive sex education from 5th grade. That means children will be taught a contraceptive lifestyle, an immoral, lustful lifestyle focusing on "safe sex" and encouraging "experimentation". Sex is designed by God only for married couples (a man and a woman). The Bible says in Hebrews 13:4, "Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral."

Our children need chastity and purity education focused on Biblical principles, and not comprehensive sex education. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."

The RH bill also lets pro-abortion NGOs become part of a "population commission" on local government levels. So pro-abortion people will technically run the population control program. The NGOs backing this population bill are pro-abortion. The Family Planning Organization of the Philippines is the Philippine office of International Planned Parenthood Federation. Planned Parenthood is the LARGEST ABORTION CLINIC OPERATOR in AMERICA.

As Christians we must realize that by accepting the birth control mentality we are actually becoming allies with pro-abortion groups. The word of God says: "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God." (2 Cor 6:14-16) The idolatrous, humanistic, godless world-views of the culture of death:"sexual and reproductive rights", "birth control mentality", "overpopulation", "the woman's right to choose" and "abortion as a reproductive right" have no fellowship with the principles of the word of God. By agreeing to the principles of the culture of death we are being yoked together with people who hate God.

Christians must not compromise with the culture of death. It is time for us to think like God thinks. To think of people and children as God thinks of them-as blessings and not burdens. We should consider this generation and the next generation as our flock and our harvest field! We will love and appreciate children. We will not look down on people with large families. Then we will say as the psalmist said in Psalm 78:4-7, "We will not hide them (the teachings of God) from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, His power, and the wonders He has done. He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which He commanded our forefathers to teach their children,so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children.Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands." and in Psalm 22:30-31 Posterity will serve Him; future generations will be told about the Lord. They will proclaim His righteousness to a people yet unborn--for He has done it."

The Lord opened a door for us at Christian Pro-life Resources through the help of the University Student Council of UE Recto.

We held our 3rd run of the pro-life art exhibit at the Admissions Lobby, near the USC office. Eight pieces of pro-life paintings by UE alumna E.R.A., an AB Fine Arts graduate ('07, from UE Caloocan) were displayed on easels. Also on display were two tarpaulins with pro-life pictures and rubber fetal models, that were actual sizes of 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 week old babies in the womb. We also gave away "Diary of An Unborn Baby" fliers in Tagalog and English.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says, "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

I read this passage before we went to set up the exhibit. When we got to the site, it was small, but even if it was small, I knew that the artworks in the exhibit had the divine power to demolish strongholds in the students' minds that set themselves up against the knowledge of God. They were not our weapons, they were God's. In the King James version, 2 Cor 10:4-5 says, "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." So even if MTV, which is the antithesis of moral values and godliness, had a larger set up at the UE quadrangle, it was no match to God's power. We were not intimidated. Because the Bible says in1 Sam 14:6, "Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few."

The USC also organized the Pro-life Seminar at the P.O. Domingo Center for Information Technology, a cool high-tech building. I gave a lecture on "The Sanctity of Life from the Biblical and Medical Viewpoints". Eman Cauriz of the JREV worship team was also there and he sang four songs.

Population control advocates like to cite Singapore with its two-child policy(stop-at-two policy) and its economic prosperity as a role model for the Philippines. They like to point out how "poor" the Philippines is compared to Singapore because Singapore has managed its population well.

For those who have been misinformed, did you know that now Singapore is now giving away "baby bonuses" to encourage births? why? they need to import "brains" (some are Filipinos, who went to SIngapore not because they couldn't find a job here but because SIngapore needed them) because they have few young adults.

I WAS born in the 'stop-at-two' era, and am the younger of two siblings. My mother followed the recent baby bonus updates sardonically, and here is why.

My mother was pressured heavily when she was pregnant with her third child. Whether it was a boy or girl, she never got to find out as the pressure on her was so great (nurses chiding her to follow the law, having to pay a fine should she produce more than two) that she had an abortion a few weeks after she found out about her pregnancy. Had she not aborted that child, I would have a younger sibling of age 25 years, who would have helped to boost Singapore's economy in one way or another.

NEW YORK, August 28, 2008 (C-FAM.org) - The Philippine Court of Appeals recently rejected claims made by a radical pro-abortion group based in New York. The court dismissed an effort seeking to overturn an executive order promoting natural family planning. The petition was filed earlier this year by a group of Manila residents who relied heavily on legal advice and material from the international pro-abortion litigation group, the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR).

Executive Order No. 003 was instituted in February 2000 by then-mayor of Manila, Jose Atienza. The executive order “upholds natural family planning not just as a method but as a way of self-awareness in promoting the culture of life while discouraging the use of artificial methods of contraception.”

CRR admits that the executive order technically applies only to city health centers and hospitals and does not explicitly ban “artificial” contraception. But CRR and the petitioners alleged that the executive order created “serious and lingering damage to residents” and that the executive order has in practice resulted in a “sweep” of contraceptive supplies and services from city health centers and hospitals. Further, they claim that the executive order “deprive(s) many women of their main source of affordable family planning supplies.”

“Imposing Misery,” a CRR publication severely critical of the executive order, claims that the Philippines is in violation of international law and has a legal duty to “ensure right of citizens to a full range of family planning services and information.”

The document argues that the Philippine government is required to provide contraception under its international legal obligations. The document specifically mentions the CEDAW Convention, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, as well as the non-binding Beijing Platform for Action. CRR’s international law argument relies almost exclusively on the non-binding interpretations of the treaty monitoring bodies, which have routinely overstepped their mandates by criticizing sovereign states on their abortion laws and reproductive health programs.

CRR regards the challenge to the Manila executive order as an important test case. According to CRR’s 2007 annual report, a positive decision to rescind the ban “would establish constitutional protections for reproductive rights throughout the country. It could also be used to defend similar rights in neighboring countries, as well as in Catholic countries throughout the world.”

Government officials have defended the focus on natural methods of family planning, as modern contraceptives have not been banned and are still available commercially throughout the country.

Though the Philippine Court of Appeals has dismissed the petition, the petitioners have vowed “to take their case to the international courts,” and other domestic avenues to challenge the order remain open.

Let us be aware of the tactics employed by pro-abortion groups like the Center for Reproductive Rights to impose their "reproductive rights" agenda on our nation. They are trying to change Philippine laws by their litigation tactics. They want the laws to open the doors of the Philippines to artificial contraceptives, some of which are abortifacients, and the legalization and/or condoning of abortion. For them, lack of access to abortion, which is the murder of an innocent unborn baby, is a "social injustice", but in fact it is the killing of the helpless unborn baby which is the injustice.

The Bible says in Psalm 94:20-21:

"Can a corrupt throne be allied with you-- one that brings on misery by its decrees? They band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death."

In the KJV the same passage says:

"Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law? They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood."

An abortion decree, whether it is legalization (like Roe v. Wade in the US) or condoning of abortion (like the proposed Reproductive Health Bill by Rep. Lagman), brings misery and death to millions of babies. Abortion sheds innocent blood. CRR has got it all wrong--- it is legalization of abortion that imposes misery, not the upholding of natural family planning.

What About the Babies?

Another spate of press releases were churned out this past week by the proponents of the Reproductive Health Bill. They either extol the bill and its alleged "benefits" to the nation and/or attack the Catholic church.

Why is the reproductive health bill of such grave importance to these people? It has a budget of 2 Billion pesos. Who stands to gain primarily from the importation of contraceptives? These are the contraceptive manufacturers and the suppliers of contraceptives. And they want to legalize "post-abortion care" .(Care? For the mom maybe. What about the baby? Who cares about the baby whose life has been ended by his mom and by whoever forced the mom to kill her baby? What about the baby's life?) Who stands to earn from post-abortion care? Doctors who will remove the remains of the dead babies?And also suppliers of manual vacuum aspirators and paraphernalia which, incidentally, are also used for carrying out abortions in other countries.

Why legalize post-abortion "care", when it is already being done in our hospitals? Legalizing it will put funds into it and will punish non-obedience to the law. But the legalization of post-abortion "care" itself DISREGARDS the baby's life. Killing of babies through abortion is a crime in the Philippines, the law upholds the baby's life. It makes the mom who aborted and the abortionist who carried it out, liable and accountable to the law for killing the baby.

There was a story in the Philippine Inquirer, last July 29, on page 4, entitled "RP Catholics bash groups against contraceptive ban". It said there, "The Catholic Church...views abortion as a grievous sin."

It made me think---abortion is a grievous sin, even for the Protestants and Christians! This is not a "view" as the writer of the story put it. Has abortion just become an "issue" where people take sides or opposing views? As far as the Bible is concerned, abortion is a terrible sin against God, it is murder, it is the shedding of innocent blood. Murder itself is an act of hatred toward God because God created life, and only He can say when a life is to end. Innocent blood cries out to God for justice, like Abel's blood did when his brother Cain killed him.

So I say, what about the babies? Their blood cries out to God for justice. Post-abortion "care" must not be legalized. This population control bill in our country must now be the stimulus for Protestant Christians and Christian churches all over the country to take a stand for life, and not just sit on the fence while the Catholic church is taking a beating in the media.

This is not an attack on Rep. Lagman, but rather I am exposing the "wolf in sheep's clothing" which is the bill itself. I have written there why Christians must object to the bill. This is because its basis is unbiblical, against the word of God, especially when it comes to the shedding of innocent blood, the sanctity of life and of marriage, and sexual immorality.

"Family planning" is not a "Catholic issue". Protestant Christians must be aware of the "culture of death" which contraceptive manufacturers and pro-abortion organizations push. For them, life does not start at conception, abortion/killing of babies is a right, and unborn babies are not human, especially if they are not "wanted". Hatred for the unborn is hatred for God, the Creator of life, who made these children. That hatred for the unborn leads them to kill babies in their mothers' womb, in the guise of "compassion" for the mother.

MANILA, Philippines, July 28, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A Mass and vigil was held on Friday at the University of Santo Tomas to mark the 40th anniversary of the encyclical letter of Pope John Paul VI on human life, Humanae Vitae. One goal of the rally was to pressure lawmakers into abandoning the proposed Reproductive Health and Population Development Act, which has passed the committee level in the Philippine House of Representatives.

The Act would create a new agency called the Commission on Population (POPCOM) which would "encourage" families to have only two children, and promote the use of a variety of abortifacient drugs, including the IUD and the pill.

In a massive gathering of pro-life supporters, leaders from the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), members of the Christian charismatic group El Shaddai, politicians, personalities, students, professionals and laborers massed at the university parade grounds to the peel of hundreds of church bells throughout the city.

"This will express the Catholics' firm belief in life and their commitment to stand up for life," Manila Auxiliary Bishop Bernardino Cortez said.

The prayer rally carried the theme "Biyaya ng Buhay, Biyaya ng Pamilya (Blessing of Life, Blessing of the Family)," and was aimed at convincing lawmakers, especially those still undecided on what stance to take regarding the Reproductive Health (RH) bill, that it was unnecessary and would harm Philippine society in the long run.

Archbishop Paciano Aniceto of San Fernando said, "We pray that they change their minds. They are also trying to weigh matters. The first-termers, for example, they don't have much lawmaking experience and they are not really aware of the backgrounds and certain issues in Congress, like this [RH bill]. This is destroying the family, which is the foundation of all government and civilization."

Archbishop Angel Lagdameo, President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, said there was hope that legislators would not let the bill pass the House after the prayer rally.

"I hope they don't rush it. There's still a chance that they will have a change of heart," he said.

In his homily, Archbishop Lagdameo called for a "change in attitude" in society and stressed the Church's stand against contraceptives.

"We need a change of attitude. The attitude of 'what is mine is mine absolutely and I can do with it as I wish,' or the belief that 'my money entitles me to consume or control on my own terms as much as my money will buy' is not permissible anymore," he said.

"We in the Catholic Church...advocate only natural family planning methods as the only morally acceptable way of practicing responsible parenthood."

He said the Church does not forbid the advocacy of the increase or decrease of population provided that the religious beliefs of the couple on sexual and family morality are respected, and warned that the family as an institution is being threatened by the Reproductive Health bill.

"The subtle attacks on family and conjugal morality through legislations that promote artificial methods of birth control are couched in attractive but deceptive terminologies like Reproductive Health Care, population management, anti-discrimination of women and children, reproductive rights and patients' rights," he said.

The Archbishop said that poverty is not caused by overpopulation but by misuse of public funds.

"If all the money that goes to graft and corruption of government or is used for the wrong reasons were spent for our increasingly poor population, we will have indeed both population and true progress, a population that is the resource and object of development," he said.

"If only government would be really pro-poor, there would be less and less poor people," the prelate added.

Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales told married couples that if they conduct themselves with discipline and self-control, they would be "in possession of true values of life."

"If there is discipline in the marital bed, then there is discipline in the streets, there is discipline in schools, there is discipline in the government," Archbishop Rosales proclaimed.

He then compared the act of ending the life of an unborn child to King Herod's order to slaughter the infants of Bethlehem after Christ was born.

"Wherever this happens, in the clinics, health centers, or hospitals, ending the life of a child inside a mother's womb is a repeat of Herod's massacre of the innocents … and a Herod could be your neighbor," he said.

Pat Buckley of the European Life Network and a pro-life lobbyist at the UN and the Human Rights Council in Geneva, said of the Philippines Reproductive Health bill: "The act not only sets the scene for the introduction of abortion, it is also aimed at substantially reducing the population by various means including abortifacient birth control and sterilisation."

"While some of the language is about choice there is also coercion. Medical personnel will be forced either to comply or to refer people to someone who will. This is a direct attack on conscientious objection."

"There are also a range of penalties if various people do not comply, from dismissal to fines and imprisonment. There is also a provision that says any person who maliciously engages in disinformation about the intent or provisions of this Act shall be subject to penalties. This is a grave attack on freedom of speech and is aimed at the pro-life community and the Church."

Last Abortion Clinic in South Dakota Closes after Law Requires Patients be Informed of Possible Side Effects

SIOUX FALLS, SD, July 24, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - On Monday, July 21, eight women arrived at the Planned Parenthood office in Sioux Falls in South Dakota for abortions, but were instead met with locked doors and a hand-written note indicating the only abortion clinic in South Dakota was closed.

Planned Parenthood closed its doors after their abortionists, who are flown in from other states, refused to work under the new law that went into effect last Friday. The law orders abortionists to inform patients of the humanity of their babies and that the procedure could affect their mental health two hours before the abortion is set to be performed. The law also provides that abortionists can be sued if they do not comply.

This law was the brain-child of attorney Harold Cassidy and passed with the help of determined pro-life leaders Dr. Alan and Leslee Unruh, who pushed for the regulation in the face of opposition, even from some in the pro-life movement. The Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals cleared the way for the law's enactment last week.

It remains unclear if the Planned Parenthood office has permanently ceased the practice of abortion. However, several women who were scheduled for abortions this week went to a pro-life center instead, where some have reportedly changed their minds about having abortions.

"The closing of this clinic is historic in that South Dakota is, for the time being, the first abortion-free state," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "It didn't take the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and it didn't take a new President or a new Supreme Court. It took the courageous determination of pro-life heroes like Mr. Cassidy and the Unruhs who saw an opportunity to save lives and pressed on until their dream became victory."

"We applaud their efforts and encourage other states to emulate their campaign," said Newman.

The Unruhs are currently involved in the Vote Yes For Life Campaign, which would effectively ban abortions in South Dakota, putting the finishing nail in the coffin of the abortion industry there.

PIERRE, SOUTH DAKOTA, July 22, 2008, (LifeSiteNews.com) - This past Friday, a law mandating that South Dakota's physicians tell all women seeking an abortion that they are "terminating the life of a whole separate, unique living human being" went into effect.

Though the state law was passed in 2005, Planned Parenthood successfully challenged the legislation in the courts, causing a preliminary injunction to be established that prevented the law from being put into effect.

That injunction, however, expired on Friday, and now all physicians performing abortions at the Planned Parenthood clinic in Sioux Falls - the state's only acknowledged abortuary - must present the client with the specific language as it has been formulated by law. A woman must certify in writing that she understands no earlier than two hours before the procedure is conducted (Slevin, Washington Post, 7/20).

The law also mandates that a woman who seeks an abortion must be told that she is willingly putting herself at a higher risk of suicide and depression and that in choosing to end the life of her child she is terminating an 'existing relationship' that is protected by the US constitution and that her "existing constitutional rights with regards to that relationship will be terminated."

Another related law took effect on July 1, requiring doctors in South Dakota to ask a woman seeking an abortion if she wants to see a sonogram of her baby.

About 700 abortions are performed in South Dakota each year.

Although 32 states have informed consent regulations, South Dakota is the only state that includes the reference to an unborn baby as "a whole, separate, unique living human being."

The Population is not the Problem

Population per se is not the problem hindering our economic development as population controllers claim. And it is so discriminatory to the poor to say that they are too many. What about the well-known Senator and his alleged 81 children? Why don't they legislate against that? Because he's rich? You cannot have a law that applies to only one socio-economic class. Hunger and poverty are caused by many factors, and they cannot be blamed on population alone nor be solved by population control.

To aim to reduce the number of mouths to feed is not the solution to hunger or poverty. All the more so because the means they want to use to reduce the number of mouths involves the death of the innocent. Let all the corrupt officials return the money they have stolen, and we will have more than enough to feed our countrymen.

But even if they don't repent and return the money, as Christians, as long as we live, we must still hold them accountable to the word of God, whether about stealing and greed or about killing the innocent. We must still be the salt and light of the earth and expose the deeds of darkness, whether or not they repent of their greed.

Protestants/Christians should also speak up against population control and abortion and its attempted institutionalization through the proposed bill, and not be quietly staying on the sidelines as the Catholic church speaks up against population control and abortion. Christians must know that abortion is not a "Catholic" issue, but the shedding of innocent blood in the Lord's eyes.

No to the Reproductive Health Bill by Rep. Lagman!

The lines have been drawn. The Catholic Church has taken a firm stand against the population control bill which is now being pushed in Congress.

The population controllers have aimed their big guns at the Catholic church in order to gain public support for their bill.

As a Protestant Christian, I oppose the bill and I take the same stand as the Catholic church and I stand with them as they uphold life and as they take an uncompromising stand on abortion.

I oppose the bill because:

1) It condones abortion; yet abortion is A CRIME. The bill even says so, that abortion remains illegal. However, it has a provision that says "government shall ensure that women seeking care for post-abortion complications shall be treated and counseled in a humane, compassionate, and non-judgmental manner." Rep. Lagman says the bill has nothing to do with abortion.If so, why include this provision? It is already in practice. Hospitals already care for those who have aborted/killed their babies through abortifacient drugs and the use of "hilot". Why make it into law, when abortion is a CRIME?

If the bill is for "Reproductive Health and Population Development", why include post-abortion complications, knowing that abortion is illegal? Why make it into law? What do post-abortion complications have to do with population development, which is what they say the country needs?

2)It mandates the government and employers to supply contraceptives, including abortifacients, to the people . Contraceptives include IUDs, condoms and birth control pills. Birth control pills and IUDs can cause death of an embryo.

Artificial contraceptives: there are two kinds:

one that prevents conception(like condoms) and
one that kills the embryo before it implants by making the uterus hostile to the embryo (IUDs, birth control pills).

Life begins AT CONCEPTION, therefore, anything that kills a CONCEIVED life, whether that human life is called an embryo or is called a fetus, causes ABORTION.

So, as the condom is not an abortifacient, birth control pills have such an abortifacient effect. Birth control pills are not that effective in stopping ovulation, and pill manufacturers know it makes the uterine lining hostile to an embryo. The IUD is not a chemical abortifacient, but it acts by irritating the uterine lining in order to make the uterus hostile to an embryo. So it causes death of an embryo.

3) It mandates comprehensive sex education from 5th grade. That means children will be taught a contraceptive lifestyle, an immoral lifestyle focusing on "safe sex" and encouraging "experimentation". Sex is designed by God only for married couples (a man and a woman). Our children need CHASTITY EDUCATION focused on Biblical principles, not comprehensive sex education.

4) It has included a "two-child policy". Rep. Lagman says it is not mandatory. Excuse me, but if it is not mandatory, why put it into law? The two-child policy outlined in the bill actually will allow for government educational scholarship opportunities for only the first two children. If you make this into a law, you will FORCE people to either use contraceptives or to kill their children through abortion.

5) It lets leftist, godless, rabidly pro-abortion NGOs become part of a "population council" on local government levels. So it lets the pro-abortion people run the population control program. Google-search the NGOs backing this population bill and see how staunchly pro-abortion they are. (ex. Family Planning Organization of the Philippines, the Philippine office of International Planned Parenthood Federation. Planned Parenthood is the LARGEST ABORTION CLINIC OPERATOR in AMERICA.)

6) It provides punishment to people who will criticize, disagree with and disobey the "population law" and its policies. Very undemocratic.

To all Protestant, Evangelical, Pentecostal, Methodist, Baptist Christians: WE MUST TAKE A STAND AGAINST ABORTION. Abortion is the shedding of innocent blood. It violates the Sixth Commandment, "You shall not murder".The Lord hates hands that shed innocent blood.

Government- mandated population control is not Biblical because Psalm 1273:-5 says:

Sons are a heritage from the LORD,
children a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are sons born in one's youth.
Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their enemies in the gate.

Government-mandated population control was done in the Bible by Pharaoh in the time of Moses ("the Hebrews are becoming too many, kill them as they are born and throw them in the river") and by Herod in the time of the Lord Jesus (for he heard from the Magi that the King they had come to worship was born in Bethlehem.)

One unsuccessful population control law was issued in the time of Esther. The death decree issued by Haman to kill all the Jews was overturned by God through an orphan, Esther, as she risked her life again and again to approach the king of Persia under penalty of death, for the sake of her people.

My Answer to President Ramos

"Do you agree with former President Fidel Ramos that the GMA government's family planning program is "weak"?"

This is my answer: ( I emailed it to the Philippine Star, I don't know if they will ever print it.)

No. A family planning program that upholds life and does not serve the interests of contraceptive manufacturers is not weak. As a Protestant myself, I say Ramos should stop blaming the Catholic Church. The reason why there is hunger in the Philippines is not because we are too many. And it is not the Catholic Church's fault either. It's because there is lack of distribution of wealth between the rich and the poor. It's because of the greed and plunder of past government leaders. It's because of the continued greed of many government officials who steal from the coffers of the nation. We must not blame the children for being too many. People are the riches of a nation. More people means more labor, more consumers, and a bigger market. People are human resources, not burdens. If there were absolutely no corruption, the Philippines would not be as poor as it is now, and no one will be blaming the population. The solution to hunger is not to decrease the number of mouths, but to increase production and improve access to food.

Population control is not Biblical because it views children as a burden and pregnancy as a curse/disease.Population control encourages abortion and does not prevent it. In some countries, abortion is part of population control. Population control in the Bible was done by Pharaoh in Moses' time and by Herod in the Lord Jesus' time. My Pro-Life Batik Artwork

I made this batik "artwork" (obviously amateur) on a cotton throw pillow case when we went to a beach resort located south of Manila last December 2007.

I patterned it after the Philippine flag, but I put the word "JUSTICE" in the blue part and an outline of an unborn baby and an outline of the Cross of Jesus above it. The blue part of our flag signifies peacetime. But I placed Justice there because the unborn babies cry out for justice even in peacetime. It is the Lord, represented by the Cross, who will give them Justice. I then put "LIFE" in the red part, red signifying the blood of the unborn babies and the word "LIFE" being a prophetic word being spoken over the unborn babies and their mothers. The red part of the Philippine flag actually signifies wartime. In fact during wartime the Philippine flag should be hoisted with the red part on top. But for this batik artwork I made, red signifies Christians warring in prayer and intercession for the unborn babies and their mothers.

Have we been given the "right" to choose death for the unborn?

IV. EVERY WOMAN'S RIGHT TO CONTROL HER OWN BODY - FREEDOM TO CHOOSE

Does every woman have the right to control her own body? Is it her own body? (Does the definition of every woman include the female fetus?)

Ezekiel 18:4 For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son --both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die.

Psalm 127:3 Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him.

I Corinthians 6:19,20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God --this is your spiritual act of worship.

Is the "freedom to choose" the primary consideration in the abortion issue? Can freedom be abused? (Consider the fact that the freedom we are talking about is the freedom to choose to abort.)

I Peter 2:16 Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God.

V. THE HARD CASES: THE HANDICAPPED, RAPE, AND INCEST

Who is the creator of the "unwanted," "unlovable," "handicapped," "mistake"? Are these cases justifiable reasons for abortion?

Exodus 4:11 The LORD said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD?

Isaiah 45:9-11 "Woe to him who quarrels with his Maker, to him who is but a potsherd among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, `What are you making?' Does your work say, `He has no hands'? Woe to him who says to his father, `What have you begotten?' or to his mother, `What have you brought to birth?' "This is what the LORD says-- the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker: Concerning things to come, do you question me about my children, or give me orders about the work of my hands?

Romans 9:20,21 But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, `Why did you make me like this?'" Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?

I Corinthians 1:27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

Should the innocent pay for the sins of others? Who are the innocent in a pregnancy resulting from rape or incest, and is abortion acceptable in these cases?

Deuteronomy 24:16 Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin.

VI. OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO THE UNBORN, THE WOMAN IN CRISIS, AND OUR GOD

Is abortion the solution to crisis pregnancies?

Isaiah 49:15 "Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

Do we have a responsibility to God?

Genesis 9:1,5 Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth... And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man.

Isaiah 58:10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Matthew 25:34-36,40-43,45 "Then the King will say to those on his right, `Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' ... What is our responsibility as Christians to those who are handicapped, unwanted, unloved?

Proverbs 21:13 If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.

Galatians 6:2 Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Proverbs 24:11,12 Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, "But we knew nothing about this," does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?

Should Christians be involved in the discussion? What are our responsibilities as Christians in influencing our nation's policy on abortion? Should we be concerned about "pushing our morality" on others in trying to establish a pro-life policy?

Matthew. 5:13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

Romans. 10:14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Acts 4:18-20 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, "Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God's sight to obey you rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard."

Exodus 23:2 "Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd,

Must the church take a stand?

Revelation 3:15,16 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm --neither hot nor cold --I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

When those involved in abortion feel convicted by their actions, what should they do? Who do they need? Does God forgive those who have had abortions?

I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace

Isaiah 43:25 "I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.

Proverbs. 28:13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

I Peter 4:15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler.

I John 3:15 Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him.

It is the testimony of Pastor Phillips. He worked with Planned Parenthood, America's largest abortion provider, and he was even a member of the Clergy Advisory Board. However, everything changed when he witnessed an abortion and saw that the baby came out alive. He appealed to the nurse to help the baby but the nurse replied "I can’t because they’ve signed the papers that he’s dead." After that, he and his wife began to search the Scriptures. God spoke to them Jeremiah 1:5: "Before I formed you [Jeremiah] in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you..." He concluded that if the Lord knows him, then he has to be alive. He became pro-life ever since.

" I’ll never forget that day. Inside the dilapidated brick building, a former minority hospital, I was greeted by a nervous nurse and two hurried doctors. I donned the standard white coat and entered a room where I saw a very pretty young lady, anxiously sitting on the edge of an old hospital bed. There were brief introductions and then I stepped to the back and listened to the doctor tell this woman what would happen. He emphasized three things: 1) "There will be no pain to speak of." 2) "You will walk into the room." 3) "You will walk back from the room." I’m not sure what prompted them to say such things, except possibly to reassure her that this was not a major medical operation.

We went into the procedure room. I stood at the head of the lady as her legs were placed in the stirrups, the doctor sat down, and the nurse stood at his side. Following four cervical injections that were painful to the lady, she was dilated by a series of rods increasing in size. Then an ominous-looking machine with a gauze bag inside a jar was pushed close to her. The vacuum tube was put in position, the machine turned on, and a sucking sound I’ll never forget filled the room. As a mass of fluid and blood went into the jar, the gauze bag caught the fragmented body parts where I saw what appeared to be a tiny hand catch in the bag.

I asked the nurse, "Is that what I think it is?" She said, "Yeah."

After it was over, the ashen-faced woman staggered back to the other room, supported by no one until I went to her aid. The rest of my day was filled with gloom.

I spoke with some people at Planned Parenthood about my uneasy feelings and was told they would disappear after seeing a few more abortions.

I did see other abortions - two vacuum curette and one saline. After the saline abortion, the baby was born alive. Shocked, I appealed to the nurse saying, "Hey, he’s trying to live, help him!" She replied, "I can’t because they’ve signed the papers that he’s dead."

When I came home, my wife and I began to do a lot of talking and praying and searching the Scriptures - something I had not done thoroughly enough. After a period of searching, God spoke to both of us at the same time. Jeremiah 1:5 was the verse God used to change my mind. "Before I formed you [Jeremiah] in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you..." If the Lord knows him, then he has to be alive.

There was considerable guilt over my involvement. I still struggle with it. Maybe my work didn’t have that much of an effect, but I was a part of the movement. That haunts me very seriously at times. Then when I realize the grace of God, the haunting begins to disappear and I’m better able to accept His forgiveness and forgive myself.

Nevertheless, it amazes me that we Christians can be so blind, especially when I consider that the reasons society gives for justifying abortion today would have killed our Christ before He was born: He was conceived out of wedlock, conceived in an impoverished woman, uncared for by society, and an embarrassment to family members.

"...Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matt. 25:40 KJV)

Dr. Zolton Phillips III served as past president of Presbyterians Pro-Life, a group working against abortion within the Presbyterian denomination. He and his wife Sue, formerly from Florida, now live in Blackstone, Virginia, where he is pastor of the Blackstone Presbyterian Church. They both continue to be active in pro-life advocacy.

Washington, D.C. — In recent remarks, Senator Barack Obama (D-Illinois) opined that if one of his daughters should become pregnant as a teen, having the baby would be a punishment. Senator Obama said “I’ve got two daughters, 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.”

Concerned Women for America (CWA) President Wendy Wright responded, “Stigmatizing the babies conceived by teenagers is not the way to reduce teen pregnancies. Instead, it provides an excuse for aborting them. Regardless of their parentage, all human beings should be treated with respect and dignity. Our society would take a dangerous step backward from the Judeo-Christian belief that we are all created equal if we were to treat one class of humans — those born to teenagers — as a curse. Sen. Obama should clearly recant and not sidestep this issue — no baby is a ‘punishment.”

Dr. Janice Shaw Crouse, Director and Senior Fellow of CWA’s Beverly LaHaye Institute, concurred: “Unfortunately it appears that Senator Obama heard a lot more politics than theology as he listened to the sermons in his church. Scripture unequivocally informs us that children are a gift from God, and while there are serious consequences to having sexual intercourse outside of marriage, a baby is not a punishment meted out for sin. Many a woman has come to understand that despite the circumstances of a baby’s conception and birth, her little one is a precious miracle that she loves and cherishes unconditionally.”

Crouse added, “One of the attitudinal distortions that results from abortion-on-demand is callousness toward pregnancy, motherhood and babies. We are diminished as a nation when we view babies as anything less than God’s gift. Who can doubt that hardened hearts and darkened souls are the fate of those who lose the ability to stand in awe at the miracle of life?”

SPUC in UK: Speaking Up against Embryo Experimentation

Since last year, I have been on the mailing list of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children in the UK.

I have even met the President of SPUC, John Smeaton, when I attended a pro-life conference here in the Philippines in January 2007. He was one of the speakers/reactors.

One of their great concerns at the present is the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill, which will let human embryos be used for experiments and research, and horrifyingly, even for producing interspecies hybrid embryos.

SPUC has produced a flier as part of their lobby against the bill. I am posting the flier here:

I disagree with people who say that there is a "teen pregnancy epidemic". Since when did having a baby become a disease? Teen immorality and promiscuity are the problems. Sexually transmitted diseases resulting from sexual promiscuity are epidemics. Pregnancy and children are a blessing.

I am convinced that the term "teen pregnancy epidemic" was coined by pro-abortion, pro-death advocates, in order to make abortion, which is the killing of an unborn baby, the "solution" to the so-called "epidemic".

Bella is a life-affiriming movie that was shown in North America in 2007. It's about a friendship between a chef and a waitress at a Mexican restaurant in New York City. The waitress is pregnant (NOT by the chef) and is fired by the restaurant owner, the chef's brother, for always being late. The chef follows the waitress and they talk and they meet the chef's family. The waitress keeps her baby in the end. It is a clean movie because no sex is ever seen or depicted or implied. It is immoral to choose who may live and who may not.

So, I had a beautiful birthday. I'd been
going back and forth about whether to go for the 'Walk
For Life' and I'm glad that I did it.

my 35th year of life than by taking part in a
pro-life walk, a walk that calls to mind the need
to cultivate a culture of life, especially during
this, the 35th anniversary of the Roe V Wade, U.S
Supreme Court decision to legalise abortion in the
US.

It is well worth reflecting/contemplating on the
fact that I was born, 35 years ago, just around
the time when the Supreme Court here chose
to allow people to legally abort the unborn
for whatever reasons, whatsoever.

The babies aborted around that time would
have been my age this year. In taking
part in the walk, I felt that it was one
way I could help to give a voice to the
voiceless, to make a stand on behalf
of those who did not have a choice to keep their
lives.

In place of a birthday dinner celebration
as usual, or a birthday cake, or birthday cards,
I broke bread and shared the feast of Christ's
body and blood with my fellow brothers
and sisters in Christ at mass at St. Patrick's
Church, I had the pleasure of enjoying the candles
lit at the Tabernacle and I had a placard to hold
'Women Deserve Better Than Abortion' during the
Walk For Life.

Yes, it took 6 hours to drive there and 6 hours to
drive back to LA, but it was a journey not made
in vain. After all, no life is lived in vain.

It was a celebration of life. The life that is
given to all of us, the life that only He
can give, or take away.

Speaking of slavery to some of his opponents, Abraham Lincoln said:

"Why are you so careful, so tender of this one wrong and no other?

. . . There is no place where you will allow it to be even called wrong! We must not call it wrong in the Free States because it is not there, and we must not call it wrong in the Slave States because it is there; we must not call it wrong in politics because that is bringing morality into politics, and we must not call it wrong in the pulpit because that is bringing politics into religion. . .There is no single place, according to you, where this wrong thing can properly be called wrong." We must call abortion wrong in our churches because it violates the Fifth Commandment, "You shall not murder." Abortion destroys a human life created by God and for whom Jesus died.

We must call abortion wrong in our churches so our people will know it is wrong. They constantly hear the opposite in society.

But most importantly, we must call it wrong in our churches so that those who have committed this wrong will be able to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ applied to their sin and spoken to their hearts.
